Kylie Minogue has teamed with Snow Patrol for the official concert video for “These Alarms,” a live performance clip captured during the band’s sold-out show at Crystal Palace Park in South London. The video arrives after the song was released on streaming services on July 1, marking the first track issued through Snow Patrol’s new partnership with BMG.

The performance was the first time Minogue and Snow Patrol had met in person, according to representatives for the artists. On the night of the show, Minogue joined Gary Lightbody and the band for the debut of “These Alarms,” then stayed on stage for a rendition of “Chasing Cars,” the group’s biggest U.S. hit. That song reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2006 after being featured in the second-season finale of Grey’s Anatomy.

Snow Patrol originally wrote “These Alarms” with Minogue in mind while making their 2024 album The Forest Is the Path, where it was known by the working title “KYLIE.” The band eventually held the song back so they could record it with the Australian pop star herself. In a statement, Minogue said she was surprised to learn that a demo with her name had been sitting in the band’s archives and called the invitation into Snow Patrol’s world an honor.

The release also arrives during a milestone year for Snow Patrol, who are marking the 20th anniversary of Eyes Open. The album spent three weeks at No. 1 in the U.K. and became the country’s top-selling album of 2006, with more than 2.6 million units shifted there, including 2.4 million pure sales, according to the OCC. Earlier this month, the band also became the first act to receive the Official Charts Hall of Fame Award, a new annual honor recognizing the biggest single and album of the year.

Cruz Beckham is shifting his attention from football season to music, and he’s opening up about the support system behind his next move. In a recent interview with SiriusXM Hits 1 Miami hosts Mack and Jen, the 21-year-old discussed his upcoming debut EP, Wear & Tear, and explained how advice from his parents, Victoria and David Beckham, has helped him build confidence as a performer.

According to Beckham, both parents have pushed him to keep improving and focus on his craft. He said they have encouraged him to keep working until he becomes the strongest version of himself at what he does, and that their guidance has mattered as he gets ready to perform onstage with a guitar. When asked whose advice he trusts most, he gave the edge to his mother, saying she tells him to do things to the best of his ability and to relax because everything will be fine. He also noted that he values her perspective because she has performed for huge audiences, even if she did not have to play guitar onstage herself.

Beckham also said he listens closely to his girlfriend, who is a songwriter. His new project, Wear & Tear, gathers songs he has been developing over the past two or three years and includes the previously released title track, which leans into a Britpop sound. He said he’s eager to release a full body of work rather than just a couple of songs. To support the EP, he will launch his first U.S. headline tour on July 28 at The Atlantis in Washington, DC, before dates in Brooklyn, Toronto, Chicago, Minneapolis, Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, and festival stops including Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Shaky Knees, Reading, Leeds, and Rock’N’Roll Circus.

Jennifer Finch, the bassist, vocalist and songwriter who helped drive L7 through the alternative-rock surge of the 1990s, has died at 59. According to the report, she died after facing an aggressive form of brain cancer.

L7 confirmed the news in a statement that described Finch as a bandmate, sister and friend whose energy, humor and creativity left a lasting mark on the group. The band said her influence reached far beyond the stage, noting that she helped shape L7 and changed the lives of those around her. Finch was also unable to join the group’s planned farewell tour after her diagnosis, which the band had previously said required extensive treatment, rehabilitation and in-home care following multiple surgeries and complications.

Finch was a key part of L7’s best-known lineup, bringing a direct, melodic bass style to the group’s heavy, guitar-driven sound. Alongside Donita Sparks, Suzi Gardner and Dee Plakas, she helped place L7 at the crossroads of punk, metal, grunge and alternative rock, where the band became known for sharp-edged songs and a confrontational sense of humor. Formed in Los Angeles in 1985, the band broke through during the early-’90s alternative boom with tracks including “Pretend We’re Dead,” “Shove,” “Andres” and “Fuel My Fire.” Their 1992 album Bricks Are Heavy, produced by Butch Vig, became one of the group’s defining releases.

Beyond music, Finch also worked as a photographer, writer and visual artist, building a creative life that reflected the same independent spirit she brought to L7. In its tribute, the band also thanked fans and others for the support shown to Finch and her caregivers, saying it meant more than words could express.

Poppy’s planned performance at Upheaval Festival in Grand Rapids, Mich., did not unfold as expected on Friday night, July 17, after wildfire smoke pushed air quality to dangerous levels. The singer had been scheduled to play ahead of Gojira, but the conditions around showtime led to a change in the set.

Instead of appearing onstage, Poppy’s band performed without her and delivered an instrumental version of the set while wearing respirator masks under their usual stage masks. Poppy later explained the situation on Instagram Stories, saying the air quality index had climbed above 350 around the time of the performance and that she was unable to breathe in those conditions. She also noted that the set was instrumental only and thanked fans who stayed through the difficult environment.

According to the report, readings above 300 on the U.S. Air Quality Index are considered hazardous, the most severe category, and AirNow describes that range as a health emergency in which everyone may be affected. Upheaval organizers had told attendees before the gates opened that the festival would continue while officials monitored the situation, adding that safety remained the top priority. They also said the available information suggested the air could improve as the day went on.

The smoke-related disruption came during a statewide air quality alert in Michigan, with officials citing elevated fine particulate matter from wildfire smoke. It was also the second time this festival season that Poppy’s live plans were interrupted by severe conditions; in May, her Welcome to Rockville set in Daytona Beach, Fla., was cut short almost immediately after severe weather and lightning protocols were triggered. The setback arrives as Poppy continues a strong stretch on the rock charts, following the release of her seventh studio album, Empty Hands, in January.

Bonnie Tyler will be remembered in Wales with a public farewell next month, giving fans a chance to honor the singer in the places most closely tied to her life. According to the funeral notice shared by William Pressdee Funeralcare on behalf of her family, a celebration of life will take place at Swansea Minster, St. Mary’s Church, on Monday, Aug. 17, at noon BST.

Before that service, Tyler’s coffin will return to Mumbles on Saturday, Aug. 15, at 3:30 p.m. BST. The public has been invited to gather along Newton Road from 3:15 p.m. BST to pay their respects as the procession passes through. After the Swansea service, the route will continue through Skewen, in Neath Port Talbot, where Tyler grew up, before a private family service.

Tyler, whose birth name was Gaynor Hopkins, died on July 8 at age 75 in a hospital in Portugal, where she had been receiving treatment for an ongoing illness. Her family previously said she died unexpectedly from the condition she was being treated for. In the funeral notice, she was described as a warm and generous artist whose songs reached generations and remain a fixture in dance floors and karaoke rooms around the world.

Her career made her one of pop-rock’s most distinctive voices, with a rasp that powered songs including “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” “It’s a Heartache” and “Holding Out for a Hero.” “Total Eclipse of the Heart” spent four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1983 and appeared on her fifth studio album, Faster Than the Speed of Night. Over more than five decades, Tyler released 18 studio albums, represented the United Kingdom at Eurovision in 2013 with “Believe in Me,” and received an MBE in 2023 for services to music.

Her family has asked for family flowers only. Those wishing to honor her memory have been encouraged to donate to Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales and Cerebral Palsy Cymru, both of which she supported as patron.

Australia’s Spilt Milk festival has officially signaled that it will be back in 2026, ending a stretch of quiet with a new teaser video shared across its social media accounts on Friday, July 17. The clip opens with people on the street being asked to name their favorite Australian music festivals before shifting to scenes of a dense crowd and a large festival stage. It closes with the announcement that Spilt Milk will return next year.

For now, organizers have not revealed when the festival will take place, where it will be held or which artists will be involved. The teaser serves as the first step in the event’s 2026 rollout after a strong 2025 edition that sold out in all four of its host cities: Ballarat, Perth, Canberra and the Gold Coast.

Last year’s lineup was led by Kendrick Lamar and also included Doechii, Dominic Fike, Sara Landry, ScHoolboy Q, sombr, Nessa Barrett, Don West and others. The bill was later expanded with Genesis Owusu, Larissa Lambert and Lotte Gallagher ahead of the December dates. According to the report, demand was so high that presale registrations outnumbered available tickets before sales even opened, and each of the four shows ultimately sold out.

First launched in Canberra in 2016, Spilt Milk has grown into one of Australia’s major touring festivals. It expanded to Ballarat and the Gold Coast in 2019 and added Perth in 2023. The 2019 Ballarat stop also marked Juice WRLD’s final live performance, one week before his death. Like much of the live music sector in Australia, the festival paused during the COVID-19 pandemic, returned in 2022, and skipped 2024 during a difficult period for the festival market.

Billboard has released a set of photos featuring Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones’ cover shoot, with the images taken on July 2, 2026, at The Django in New York. The gallery spotlights the legendary guitarist in a Manhattan jazz club setting, offering another look at the band’s ongoing Billboard feature.

The photo release arrives alongside the publication’s wider Rolling Stones cover package, which also includes Mick Jagger’s cover shoot and full video interviews with both musicians on Billboard’s YouTube channel. According to the report, the two 82-year-old bandmates were interviewed separately, and their different personalities came through clearly in conversation.

Jagger was described as polished and highly attentive, while Richards came across as laid-back and playfully sharp, with remarks spanning topics from smartphones to his grandchildren. The piece underscores how the pair’s contrasting styles have helped define the Rolling Stones over more than six decades since their first recording 63 years ago.

Readers can view the full Rolling Stones Billboard cover story and see Jagger’s companion photo shoot as part of the same feature rollout.

Standing on the Corner have revealed a new album titled SOTC (“II”), arriving September 11 through XL. The announcement comes only a few weeks after the Brooklyn collective quietly released a different project, Standing on the Corner: II, which is still available on YouTube after its surprise debut last month.

According to the report, the two records are related but not identical. Several of the collaborators from the earlier album are also attached to this version, though Big Shug is not listed in the press release. Solange is among the new names associated with SOTC (“II”), while Danny Brown also appears on the guest list. The label did not explain how the two releases differ, and the article notes that sample clearance issues may be part of the reason for the unusual rollout.

The album includes contributions from Gio Escobar and his collaborators, along with the Warlockettes, Ladybug Mecca, Bubba Dupree, and Claudette Ortiz. Standing on the Corner also shared the song “Mr. Postman, Wait!” as a preview. The tracklist spans 15 songs, with featured appearances from artists including Styles P, Sonia Sanchez, Bubba Dupree, Claudette Ortiz, Solange, and Danny Brown.

In the press release, the group included an “SOTC communiqué” that leans into their cryptic style, but the new album’s exact relationship to the earlier release remains unclear. For now, the main takeaway is that Standing on the Corner are following one surprise album with another version of it, this time with a September release date and a revised guest list.

The post Ekko Astral Announce Indefinite Hiatus and Put Album Plans on Hold appeared first on toppoptoday.com.

Ekko Astral have said they are going on an indefinite hiatus, describing the decision as a move to focus on other musical projects. In a statement shared on social media, the Washington, D.C. punk band said it was “time to end things” for now and made clear that it does not expect to release its planned album, The Beltway Is Burning, any time soon.

The group also outlined two final shows for the foreseeable future: an outdoor performance in New York City on August 22 and a Washington, D.C. concert on August 29. According to the band, those dates will function as a full-catalogue sendoff and may be the last time they play material from this body of work for a long stretch. At the D.C. show, they plan to raffle off the painting that appeared on the cover of their 2024 debut album, Pink Balloons, with the money going toward trans health services at Whitman-Walker, a local LGBTQ+ health clinic.

Ekko Astral formed in 2021 when college friends Jae Holzman and Liam Hughes started the project, later expanding the lineup with drummer Miri Tyler, bassist Guinevere Tully, and rhythm guitarist Sam Elmore. After Pink Balloons came out on Topshelf Records, both Tully and Elmore left the band. Last year, Ekko Astral and the nonprofit Gender Liberation Movement also launched Liberation Weekend, a music and arts festival.

The band’s plans shifted sharply earlier this year when Topshelf said it was dropping Ekko Astral and ending its involvement with The Beltway Is Burning. A representative later told Pitchfork that the decision stemmed from a dispute between Holzman and Tyler that escalated into Holzman filing a peace order petition against Tyler. Ekko Astral later postponed the album indefinitely and withdrew from the second edition of Liberation Weekend. Holzman and Hughes also canceled their other upcoming performances, aside from a West Coast run supporting Mclusky. During one of those shows, they recorded the live album Fuck This Band: Live at the Chapel, which arrived as a Bandcamp exclusive on April 22, the date the album had originally been scheduled to release.

In their statement, Holzman and Hughes said Ekko Astral grew from bedroom jams and basement shows into something they had long hoped to build, and thanked everyone who supported them along the way. For now, though, the band says this chapter is closing while its members pursue other work.

Jay-Z’s place in hip-hop has been a recurring topic online in recent years, with fans and critics debating how to measure his legacy. According to the report, one of the more common arguments is that he was never the biggest rapper in any single year during his peak. The piece pushes back on that idea, saying chart positions and album sales alone do not define a rapper’s importance.

The article argues that Jay-Z’s influence was visible well beyond the music itself. He was not only releasing records through his own label, but also building a business model that other rappers admired or wanted to emulate. His lyrics often blended street narratives with references to luxury and ambition, and the writer points to how that combination made his music feel both aspirational and rooted in real-life struggle. The report also notes that the author first learned about the Robb Report through a Jay-Z lyric, underscoring how his name-drops helped introduce listeners to a certain lifestyle vocabulary.

Beyond the songs, the piece says Jay-Z helped shape the culture around rap. It credits him and the Roc-A-Fella camp with popularizing slang, making Rocawear a successful clothing line people actually wanted to wear, and influencing fashion choices from all-white Air Force 1s to button-up shirts replacing throwback jerseys. The article also says he pushed trends around cars and champagne, and even inspired other rappers to make claims about not writing their own lyrics. In the writer’s view, that kind of reach made him less of a mere chart rival and more of a defining force of his generation.

The piece also points to recognition from his peers, including a DMX lyric that name-checks Jay-Z on a 1998 album. By 1999, the report says, Jay-Z had already built an empire that made him difficult to challenge, even for major competitors. After three nights performing at Yankee Stadium, the article concludes that his standing as an era-shaping figure should not be in doubt.
