There’s still a lot of work to be done when it comes to breaking the mental health stigma, but seeing public figures openly speak about their struggles certainly helps. More and more celebrities are doing it these days and many of them recently took a step back from Hollywood to prioritize their emotional wellbeing.
Canadian hitmaker Shawn Mendes has been touring since his teenage years and noticed it was taking a toll on his mental health. After consulting his team and health professionals, he decided to cancel his world tour earlier this year to take “much-needed time off” so he could ground himself and come back stronger.
Jonah Hill is the latest celebrity to open up about his struggles with mental health. The two-time Oscar-nominated actor detailed his battle with anxiety in the upcoming documentary Stutz, but he won’t be promoting it or any other projects because he wants to protect himself from “media appearances and public-facing events” that only made his anxiety worst over the years.
Social media can take a toll on anyone’s mental health, and things tend to get worse when you’re a celebrity with 70 million followers. That’s why it wasn’t a shocker to see Tom Holland announce he’s taking a break from social media, explaining he often “spirals” when he reads things about himself online. The Spider-Man star also previously hinted that he’s considering taking a break from acting in general.
