Here’s How the Cinemas of the Future May Look Like

The coronavirus pandemic has changed our lives overnight. Suddenly, we’re not able to do many things we used to take for granted, such as hanging out with friends and going to the movies. And while getting a vaccine is the most important thing right now, there are many other things we can do to keep living our lives under these new circumstances.

Among other things that will change, it’s likely that cinemas won’t look the same in the future. They may easily be equipped with antiviral fabric, UV lights that kill viruses, and protective screens, to name a few.

The concept design comes from the London-based design agency Layer. The project is called Sequel Seat and it includes several clever features that include 3-D-knitted fabric free of dirt traps and removable protective screens that separate people in the audience.

Each seat would come with a storage unit under the armrest so the visitors won’t have to keep their jackets and other belongings in a common area. Each seat features a UV light that sterilizes the seat behind it when there’s no movie playing.

How would you feel about going to such a cinema? Would all the safety measures help you feel safer there?
