If you’ve been scrolling on TikTok lately, the chances are you’ve seen references to a “girl dinner”. This is often accompanied with an image of a woman, about to enjoy a plate of what looks like your typical cheese and crackers board. If you’re feeling confused, but would like to join in with this trend, check out these three key pieces of advice on curating your own girl dinner.

Indulge Yourself

So, what is a girl dinner? Basically, it’s odds and ends from the fridge and cupboards, combined with whatever you fancy. Rather than a “proper” meal, which has been cooked using a recipe and ingredients, a girl dinner is a plate of grapes, cheese, nuts, biscuits, chips, olives—or whatever it is that you fancy putting together. It doesn’t need to look aesthetically pleasing, although some of the posts on TikTok make the effort.

Think Quick

When do you eat a girl dinner? When you’re dining alone and are really more interested in the show you’re watching/ painting your nails/ scrolling through socials than eating dinner. You’ve no one else to impress, and as long as it’s tasty it doesn’t matter, so whip up a plate of pickles, cheese, and fruit and get back to that show.

Consider Nutrition

Many girl dinner plates are not the healthiest looking, with few vegetables or wholegrains to be seen. Whilst how and when you eat your girl dinner is up to you, including some fresh, crunchy fruit and veg such as grapes, apples, celery, and carrots can really pair well with biscuits and cheese, and increase the nutritional contents of your dinner.
