If you’re a Lorde fan, you know why the entire internet felt like it collectively freaked out on June 10th. If you’re not, you might be a little confused about what the big deal is.

Well, Lorde, the 24-year-old New Zealand singer of “Royals” fame, is notorious for releasing music very infrequently. Four years passed between her first album Pure Heroine and her second, Melodrama. So when the four-year mark since Melodrama came around this year, Lorde fans started getting antsy. And Lorde seemed to be popping up more often than she had for years, doing interviews about her trip to Antarctica and sending fans emails on her notorious newsletter mailing list, creating buzz and rumors that maybe a comeback was imminent.

Then, in early June, the rumors started swirling faster than ever and information started leaking. And finally, on June 10th, Lorde sent out an email introducing her new album and single, both titled “Solar Power,” including a link to the song’s music video. It was the first music we’ve gotten from the critical darling in a full four-year high school cycle, and hungry fans ate it right up. In true Lorde fashion, critics also loved the song, which has quickly collected five-star reviews.

So join us as we eagerly await more from this elusive pop singer—and enjoy the “Solar Power” video below.
