]]>The Oscars are the biggest award show of the year and it’s when celebrities bring out the glitz and glam. One of the few in-person award shows this year, the stars looked absolutely fabulous and they seemed to have been inspired by the award of the night—the Oscar trophy. Gold was the color of the night and we saw a lot of it on the red carpet. The best actor and actress nominees weren’t afraid to make a bold statement and here were some of the Oscar-inspired looks from the night.
Leslie Odom Jr.
Posing with his wife Nicolette Robinson, the One Night in Miami best actor nominee wore a double-breasted Brioni suit with a matching shirt and tie. The jacquard fabric was woven with gold silk and pure 24-karat gold thread, making him look like a million bucks.
Carey Mulligan
Best Actress nominee for Promising Young Woman Carey Mulligan brought sparkle to the red carpet in a strapless Valentino Haute Couture gown featuring a bandeau top and dramatic full skirt covered in gold sequin.
Andra Day
Like Carey Mulligan the Billie Holiday best actress nominee wore a gold gown, but Andra Day’s fitted Vera Wang dress was super daring showing tons of skin with its bold cutouts.

]]>Major Oscar winners are usually pretty easy to predict because all the ceremonies leading up to the Academy Awards give us all the insight we need. The race is pretty predictable in many of the leading categories this year, but we still have no clue who’s going to pick up the trophy for the best actress come Oscar night.
The list of this year’s contenders includes Viola Davis (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), Andra Day (The United States vs. Billie Holiday), Vanessa Kirby (Pieces of a Woman), Frances McDormand (Nomadland), Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman). The tricky part? None of them established herself as a front-runner nor scored repeated victories at major award shows.
Leading awards prediction website Gold Derby is singling out Mulligan as the front-runner, but we wouldn’t be too quick to put our money on her. She came out victorious at the Critics’ Choice Awards and National Board of Review Awards, but critics aren’t voting at the Oscars.
Davis is often mentioned as a possible winner, especially after her SAG Awards win. However, despite being highly respectable, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom failed to score Oscar nominations in other major categories, reducing Davis’ chances with the Academy voters.
The newcomer Andra Day managed to beat all of her Oscar competitors at the Golden Globes, but that still didn’t grant her the status of the front-runner. The same goes for Frances McDormand, who recently won the best actress award at the BAFTAs—where Davis, Day, and Mulligan didn’t even score nominations.
Even months into the Oscar race, nothing is crystal clear. No matter who wins the best actress at the Oscars, one thing is for sure—when one of them picks up the trophy with the bewildered look on her face, she won’t be faking the shock.

Jurnee Smollett
Not all the power suits at this ceremony came in black. The Lovecraft Country star Jurnee Smollett opted for a silver sequined suit by Louis Vuitton and paired it off with a JustDesi Jewelry necklace.

The R&B singer showed us that suits can look amazing even when they come in lighter colors with her flower-embroidered suit by Miu Miu.
Andra Day
Pants were also all the rage at this year’s Critics’ Choice Awards and Day embraced this trend with her purple and green custom Prada combo.
