The number of head coaching vacancies in the NFL is growing by the day. After the NY Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars fired their coaches in recent days, the Los Angeles Chargers decided to make the same move on Monday.

The Chargers confirmed on social media that the franchise fired Anthony Lynn, ending his four-year stint as the team’s head coach.

According to a statement from owner Dean Spanos, the organization made the move because “the results of the past two years have fallen short of expectations.”

Lynn’s firing was somewhat expected as the team struggled early in the season despite a talented roster and showed the inability to win close games. The Chargers did finish the regular season with a four-game winning streak, but this ultimately wasn’t enough for Lynn to keep his job.

The Chargers shouldn’t have a problem generating interest in their job thanks to rookie quarterback Justin Herbert’s stellar performances in 2020. Herbert threw for 4,336 yards in 15 games as a starter while setting NFL-rookie-record 396 completions and 31 touchdown passes.

Anthony Lynn took over as LA Chargers’ head coach in 2017. After a 9-7 campaign in his first season at the post, Lynn led the Chargers to a 12-4 finish in 2018 and an appearance in AFC Divisional Game.

Unfortunately for Lynn, things went downhill from there, as Chargers went 5-11 in 2019 and 7-9 this season.
