Netflix is yet to score its first best picture win at the Oscars and they have several worthy contenders in the running this year. Although the awards ceremony is still months away, experts are already predicting one of these movies could come out victorious.

Mank

After a long break, David Fincher is finally back with his passion project, based on the script that his late father wrote years ago. His latest movie Mank chronicles Herman J. Mankiewicz’s struggle to get credit as the screenwriter of Orson Welles’s masterpiece Citizen Kane.

The Trial of the Chicago 7

In his second directorial effort, the famed screenwriter Aaron Sorkin tackles the story of the Chicago Seven—a group of anti–Vietnam War protesters who were a part of a highly-publicized trial in the late ‘60s after being charged with conspiracy and inciting a riot.

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom

If his final role, Chadwick Boseman joins Viola Davis in this highly-anticipated biopic, based on the life of the singer Ma Rainey, known as the “mother of the blues”. The film is based on August Wilson’s play of the same name and experts are predicting Boseman and Davis will both receive Oscar nods for their powerhouse performances.

We couldn’t help but notice all the gold dresses we saw during the award season this year. The metallic shade made its way onto the red carpet at the BAFTAs, Oscars, the SAG Awards, and many film premieres. These celebrities had a different take on the gold trend, and we love all of these dresses.

Zoë Kravitz

The High Fidelity star shun bright in this gold sequin form-fitting Saint Laurent gown. The red accents she paired it with perfectly offset the metallic shade.

Yara Shahidi

The Grown-ish actress stole the show at the Milan Fashion week in this mini gold Gucci dress with knee-high black boots.

Natalia Dyer

Another Saint Laurent gold dress makes this list with Dyer’s textured v-neck gown. The Stranger Things star wore this show-stopping number to the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Florence Pugh

Is there a better color to wear to the Oscars than gold? Pugh definitely stood out on the red carpet in this black-and-gold Louis Vuitton gown.

Karen Gillan

Gillan’s Rochas slip dress played off of the light perfectly, making it the perfect dress for photographs at The Call of the Wild premiere. She finished off the look with a classic red lip.

All is Bright

A-list stars attending Golden Globes mostly ditched black and white and opted for vibrant colors. This trend has been a long time coming, and it seems it’s here to stay.

Two in One

Seeing a dress that can double down as pants or shorts is one of the most refreshing things you can see on the red carpet, and we’re hoping there’s more to come.

Bow Down

Bows were the biggest trend of the night at this year’s Golden Globes, and everyone from Julianne Moore to Danai Gurira was spotted wearing them.

Princess Moment

No better place than a red carpet to show up looking like a princess, so it’s safe to say we’ll be seeing more fairy tale-like gowns as awards season progresses.

Velvet Fever

A few stars were seen rocking velvet at the Golden Globes and after-parties. It’s one of the trends we desperately want to happen since it’s sophisticated and effortless at the same time.
