Chances are that as soon as you heard “Baby Shark” you couldn’t get the catchy tune out of your head. Well, now it’s officially the most-viewed video on YouTube. According to Hyperbeast, Pinkfong’s hit, “Baby Shark” has surpassed Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber’s “Despacito” making it the most-watched video on the platform.

At the end of October, the song hit 7,042,720,458 views, while Fonsi’s successful hit had 7,038,330,283. And according to TIME, “Despacito” was considered the song of the summer in 2017.

“Baby Shark” began as a children’s songs by Smart Study, a company for younger audiences in South Korea, in November 2015. After it was successful in South Korea, the song was translated to English in 2016, before becoming a worldwide hit.

The song is only 90 seconds, but it led to branded merchandise, books, and a live tour.

The song became such a craze in South Korea that popular bands like Red Velvet, Girls’ Generation, and Blackpink incorporated it into their concerts.

The YouTube video inspired the hashtag #BabySharkChallenge that even inspired Cardi B and Josh Groban to join in.

And according to The Guardian, the tune is so relentless that three prison workers in Oklahoma were charged with prisoner cruelty, citing that the workers made the prisoners stand and listen to the song on repeat for two hours straight.
