Billboard charts have always been one of the main indicators of trends in the music industry. The media giant launched dozens of charts over the course of the last few decades, but their latest was introduced last week and it perfectly reflects global trends.

Billboard’s newly launched charts are called Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. The first chart takes weekly global streams and downloads from over 200 territories into account, while the second does the same, but it doesn’t include the United States.

The main point of these charts is to “[reflect] a world view” and give international acts “overdue exposure and recognition”. At this point in time, there isn’t much difference between Billboard’s flagship Hot 100 and the Global 200 chart. “WAP” by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion topped them both for the first two weeks, but Billboard Global Excl. U.S. points to a different situation on a global scene.

The inaugural chart was topped by “Hawái” by Maluma, while “Dynamite” by BTS took the no. 1 spot for the second week. In addition to global hits that made it to the Hot 100, this chart mostly consists of K-pop tracks and Spanish-language hits.

If you need another proof that the future is female, just take a look at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. 2020 has been a groundbreaking year for female artists, as several collaborations by multiple women soloists hit no. 1.

The latest female duet to top the charts is “WAP” by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion. Its debut atop the Billboard Hot 100 is truly iconic since it had the biggest debut week in chart’s history with 93 million streams in the US alone.

“WAP” isn’t even the first female collaboration to reach no. 1 in 2020. It’s following the footsteps of three chart-toppers recorded by women—”Rain on Me” by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, “Say So” by Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj, and “Savage” by Megan Thee Stallion and Beyoncé.

If you don’t think that having four female collaborations at no. 1 in a single year is impressive enough, we’ll leave you with one final piece of information— the Billboard Hot 100 chart has been around for over six decades, and it had only five chart-topping female duets before 2020.

Mariah Carey recorded her famous Christmas song All I Want for Christmas Is You back in 1994 and included her in the album Merry Christmas. Over the past 25 years, the song’s popularity never faded and it seems like it’s now even more popular than ever before. After all, it finally ended up in the first place of the Billboard Hot 100 list.

This is Carey’s 19th song to become No. 1 on Hot 100, which is such an incredible triumph. We can rightfully expect it to stay at the top place for the 2010s charts, too. Carey also recorded a brand new video for the song and you can see it below.

If you were wondering who has the most number ones on the hot 100 chart, it’s still The Beatles, who hold the record with 20 songs. Carey is the current winner among the solo artists, but she only needs one more super hit to tie with The Beatles. This is her third decade in which she’s had chart-topping hits — the 1990s, 2000s, and now 2010s. And since we’re about to enter the 2020s really soon and Carey is back stronger than ever, we can only watch what happens next.
