Houston Texans addressed their cornerback issues late on Tuesday by signing veteran corner Brandon Williams. The 28-year-old player will be initially added to the Texans’ practice squad, according to reports, but is expected to have a role in the remaining two games of the regular season.

Williams spent most of 2020 with New York Giants, where he played six games. He was mostly used on special teams and managed to record only one tackle.

The Texans’ secondary was hit with several injuries, with starting corner Phillip Gaines dealing with knee issues and 2020’s fourth-round pick John Reid having a neck injury. The team recently also lost starting safety Justin Reid for the season.

Brandon Williams entered the NFL as Arizona Cardinals’ third-round pick in 2016. Although the Cardinals had big expectations for the Texas A&M product, Williams struggled to get comfortable in pros.

During his first three years in Arizona, Williams played 45 games but only managed to total 38 tackles and five pass deflections. He missed the entire 2019 on the sidelines following an offseason back surgery and became a free agent in 2020.
