Voting was more tense than ever this year, but the Swiss contestant Nemo eventually came out victorious. They’re the first non-binary winner of Eurovision, and their song “The Code” sees them breaking the binary view of gender and embracing their true identity.
Baby Lasagna’s “Rim Tim Tagi Dim” entered the contest as the bookie’s favorite, and finished second after winning the public vote. It sees the Croatian singer offering a humorous take on a pretty serious subject – the mass exodus of young people leaving his home country in search of a better life.
Despite being disqualified ahead of the grand final, Joost Klein is making waves on Spotify with his song “Europapa”. It initially entered the contest as one of the favorites, and it sees the Dutch singer paying homage to his late parents.
Ireland’s representative Bambie Thug stirred a lot of commotion with their song “Doomsday Blue”. They bewitched the audience with this genre-bending track, which falls under the genre that they describe as “ouija-pop”.

No song created more buzz at this year’s Eurovision than Käärijä’s “Cha Cha Cha”, and its failure to win the competition started a larger conversation about the validity of jury votes at this event.
Loreen came into this year’s Eurovision as a clear front-runner but left the audience pretty divided after lifting the trophy at the very end, making Eurovision history as the first woman to win twice.
Noa Kirel gave us a true Gen-Z Eurovision banger with her catchy song “Unicorn”, and her energetic performance made up for the song’s silly lyrics and eventually earned her a third spot.
Alessandra is another Gen-Z singer whose song got everyone talking and it’s another girl power anthem that has all the traits of a Eurovision classic.
Austrian duo Teya & Salena started a conversation about the state of the modern music industry with their viral hit “Who The Hell Is Edgar?”. Many viewers blamed their low ranking on the running order of the songs and called for change.

The winning band, Måneskin, performed their rock song “Zitti e Buoni” and got first place with a total of 524 points. So now that we know who is going to reign as 2021’s Eurovision champion, let’s get to know a bit about the band behind the victory.
Måneskin is comprised of lead vocalist Damiano David, bassist Victoria De Angelis, guitarist Thomas Raggi, and drummer Ethan Torchio. The name of the band means “moonlight” in Danish, the home country of bassist De Angelis. Måneskin rose to fame in 2017 after competing on Italian X-Factor and placing second.
They then went on to win the Sanremo Music Festival in 2021, qualifying them to represent Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest, where they took home first place.
Among other things, Måneskin is most noted for their effort to defy gender stereotypes, something that bassist De Angelis described as important for them to do in order to encourage people “to open their minds and stop judging others.”
Following their Eurovision win, Måneskin will go on tour in Italy starting in December and then hopefully the world.
