It’s difficult for viral food trends to get everyone’s seal of approval, and there are always people who are going to dislike them. That’s certainly the case with Food Network’s popcorn salad that recently managed to unite the internet because everyone seems to hate it in equal measure.

The recipe went viral shortly after the celebrity cook Molly Yeh prepared it on her show Girl Meets Farm. The unusual dish is made with mayonnaise, sour cream, mustard, carrots, sugar snap peas, celery, and shallots, but Yeh created a real commotion when she added popcorns to the mix and promised that this combo tastes truly amazing.

“Popcorn salad is one of those classic Midwestern dishes that you would often find in a church basement potluck. You don’t think it’s gonna work, but then you taste it and it’s really good,” claimed Yeh in the viral insert from the show.

Midwestern viewers—and pretty much everyone else on Twitter—didn’t agree with Yeh’s statement, and popcorn salad quickly started trending for all the wrong reasons. Many social media users roasted the viral recipe and several talk shows even reported about its newfound fame. Most people couldn’t stomach the salad, but some were willing to give it a try, especially since Molly Yeh is such an acclaimed chef with many amazing recipes behind her.
