]]>The Golden Globes kicked off the awards season in style on Sunday night and gave us countless red carpet looks to remember. From beautiful pink and red looks to shimmering metallic gowns, we’re bringing you five red carpet-trends that stole the show at this ceremony.
Our favorite stars were shining brighter than ever in shimmering metallic dresses at the Golden Globes. We’ve seen the likes of Taylor Swift, Elizabeth Debicki, Natalie Portman, and Julia Garner fully embracing this trend.
Barbie was the most-nominated film at this year’s Golden Globes, so it was only fitting for its star Margot Robbie to hit the red carpet in pink, but so did Jennifer Lopez and Hailee Steinfeld!
Red was definitely the most popular color at this year’s Golden Globes, and we’ve seen everyone from Florence Pugh and Selena Gomez to Heidi Klum and Ayo Edebiri putting their own twist on this trend.
Black and white dresses were also all the rage this year, and several stars decided to wear both colors at once, including Meryl Streep, Carey Mulligan, Pom Klementieff, and Lily Gladstone.
Off-shoulder gowns were all the rage at the Globes. Jennifer Lopez, Allison Williams, Cailee Spaeny, Gillian Anderson, and Elle Fanning were only some of the stars to welcome this trend with open arms.

]]>After a lot of anticipation, Golden Globe nominations are finally in, with Barbie and Succession leading the way with nine nods each. The HFPA made some pretty great choices this year, but some of this year’s nominations still left us scratching our heads.
It was quite a shocker to see several hit musicals, including The Color Purple, The Little Mermaid, and Wonka shot out of the best comedy or musical field to make room for No Hard Feelings starring Jennifer Lawrence.
It was quite refreshing to see foreign films Anatomy of a Fall and The Zone of Interest, receive nods for the best drama film, while Fallen Leaves’ Alma Pöysti even broke into the competitive acting field.
Abbott Elementary will be in the running for the best comedy/musical series this year, but Quinta Brunson is the only member of its ensemble cast to receive an acting nod.
Barry Keoghan and Rosamund Pike received acting nods for their performances in Saltburn, with the latter even booting front-runners Viola Davis (Air) and America Ferrera (Barbie) out of the star-studded best supporting actress field.
The HFPA has a habit of showering A-list stars with love, but they still gave Harrison Ford zero nominations this year, showing no love for his performances in 1923 and Shrinking.

]]>After taking a sabbatical last year, the Golden Globes returned in style on Tuesday night and the stars attending the show were shining brighter than ever. The red carpet at this ceremony was all about that sparkle and we’re bringing you five of the most dazzling dresses.
We can count on Jessica Chastain to serve at each award ceremony that she attends and her sparkly Oscar de la Renta gown with spider web details was pure gold.
Speaking of stunning golden gowns, they were all the rage at this year’s Golden Globes, and Jennifer Hudson gave us one of the very best with this CD Greene number with mirror glass details.
Angela Bassett made history as the first performer to pick a Golden Globe for a Marvel movie—and she did it in a dazzling silver Pamella Roland dress with a dramatic high neckline.
Michelle Yeoh delivered one of the night’s best red carpet looks in a strapless Armani Privé midnight blue dress, embroidered with dazzling crystals and sequins.
Sparkly dresses at this year’s Golden Globes came in all the colors of the rainbow. The Abbott Elementary star opted for one of the ceremony’s trendiest hues with this purple Aliétte gown.

]]>The Golden Globes nominations are finally out, with The Banshees of Inisherin leading the pack with eight nods. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association made some pretty great choices this year, but they also caught us off guard with several major snubs and surprises.
Tom Cruise proved that big action blockbusters can still earn big bucks and attract people to movie theaters with Top Gun: Maverick, but it wasn’t enough to earn him the best actor nomination.
Given the bad reception that Netflix’s Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde has received, we didn’t really expect Ana de Armas to be nominated for any major awards this season.
Zero female directors received nominations at this year’s Golden Globes and the absence of Sarah Polley’s Women Talking and Gina Prince-Bythewood’s The Woman King is the most glaring.
Danielle Deadwyler’s performance as Emmett Till’s grieving mother in Till sparked major Oscar buzz and the film’s omission at this year’s Golden Globes proves that the HFPA still has a long way to go in terms of diversity.
It’s only been a few weeks since Wednesday came out and made quite a splash on Netflix and the teen fantasy series was so addictive that it even managed to win over the HFPA.

]]>The Golden Globes were held quietly this year, but the list of winners at this ceremony still managed to make a lot of noise. Some of the wins very pretty surprising, and here are the five biggest shockers of the night.
Lady Gaga (House of Gucci) and Kristen Stewart (Spencer) were obvious front-runners for the best actress award at this year’s Golden Globes, so it was quite a shocker to see Nicole Kidman win instead.
Will Smith’s win for his amazing portrayal in King Richard is fully deserved, but most people expected Benedict Cumberbatch to pick up the award for The Power of the Dog.
Mj Rodriguez was going against the likes of Jennifer Aniston and Elizabeth Moss in the category for the best actress in a drama series and managed to make history as the first trans actress to win a major acting category with Pose.
Squid Game made quite a splash and broke Netflix’s viewership record at the end of 2021, but no one really expected O Yeong-su to beat the likes of Billy Crudup and Kieran Culkin and win the award for the best supporting actor in a series.
Rachel Zegler and Ariana DeBose were both going against pretty tough competition in their respective acting categories, and it was pretty surprising to see them collect awards for their work in West Side Story.

]]>The list of nominees for the Golden Globes is in, with Belfast and The Power of the Dog leading the way. HFPA chose some worthy contenders to compete for the top prizes at the upcoming ceremony, but we were pretty surprised by some of their choices this time around.
The biggest surprise that HFPA had in store came at the very beginning of the nomination announcement when Snoop Dog stepped out to declare the contenders.
Steve Martin and Martin Short both received acting nods for Only Murders in the Building. Selena Gomez was left out, which is quite a shocker since HFPA has a habit of nominating big-name contenders.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest ode to San Fernando Valley fully deserves all the praise it’s getting, but it was pretty surprising to see newcomers Alana Haim and Cooper Hoffman get their acting nods.
Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen received Golden Globe nods for their work on WandaVision, but that wasn’t the case with their co-star Kathryn Hahn—or the series itself.
Netflix projects received 17 nods for Golden Globes this year, and its foreign series—including Lupin and Squid Game—had a surprisingly good showing.
Succession topped the list of nominees in TV categories, but the absence of Matthew Macfadyen is pretty jarring because most fans of the show would agree he’s the MVP of the latest season.

]]>The post Women are Making Awards History This Year appeared first on toppoptoday.com.
]]>This year is women’s year—women are making awards history and finally getting the recognition they deserve. In 2021, women are getting nominated and receiving accolades at the most prestigious awards including the Golden Globes, Oscars, and Grammys. And it’s about time!
Earlier this month, Chloé Zhao made history as only the second woman ever to win Best Director at the Golden Globes for Nomadland and she’s the first woman of Asian descent to be nominated for an Oscar. Zhao along with Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman) made history, for the first time ever that two women have been nominated for Best Director. The Oscars have only had five women nominated for Best Director in its entire history.
The film industry isn’t the only one celebrating female creativity—women in music are being recognized. The Grammys, which took place last Sunday night, saw female artists winning the major awards. Megan Thee Stallion won for Best New Artist and her song “Savage” featuring Beyoncé won Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song. Billie Eilish won Record of the Year for Everything I Wanted, Taylor Swift won Album of the Year for Folklore, Dua Lipa won Best Pop Vocal Album for Future Nostalgia, and H.E.R. won Song of the Year for “I Can’t Breathe”. Beyoncé won four awards, making her total Grammys 28, which is more than any other woman in the show’s history.
We can’t wait to see what other awards women win this year. We’ll have to wait until April 25 to see if women can take home Oscars.

If we had to pick a single color that was ruling the red carpet at this ceremony, it would be black. From extravagant gowns to mini suits, everyone from Vanessa Kirby to Tina Fey was wearing black this year.
No award ceremony is complete without dreamy gowns that look straight out of a fairytale. Kaley Cuoco, Maria Bakalova, and Anya Taylor-Joy are some of the stars who had their princess moment this time around.
Dresses with a retro vibe are our personal favorite trend from this year’s Golden Globes, and we’re hoping to see more stars giving us look similar to Julia Garner’s and Emma Corrin’s.
Shoulder baring gowns were dominating the red carpet, and they came in many different shapes and forms. From one shoulder and strapless dresses to gowns with striking neck details, Lily Collins, Regina King, Tiffany Haddish, and many more couldn’t resist this trend.
Several stars embraced the “go big or go home” approach to fashion at the Globes. Cynthia Erivo, Rosamund Pike, and Nicola Coughlan were among the stars who hit the red carpet in oversized, over-the-top gowns.

]]>The nominations for the Golden Globe Awards are in, with David Fincher’s Mank and Netflix’s royal drama The Crown leading the way with six nominations each. Their domination was pretty much expected, but what about snubs and surprises that no one saw coming?
The HFPA members had a chance to nominate Zendaya twice for her performance in Malcolm & Marie and the Emmy-winning turn in Euphoria—but they didn’t take it.
Sia‘s directorial debut Music wasn’t well-received by the critics and it’s yet to come out in the U.S., but that didn’t stop it from taking the nomination for best musical or comedy from other worthy contenders.
Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods was always a dark-horse in this year’s Golden Globe race, but it’s still disappointing to see it shut out of the best motion picture – drama category.
Golden Globes made history by nominating three female directors this year—Chloe Zhao for Nomadland, Emerald Fennell for Promising Young Woman, and Regina King for One Night in Miami.
After the snub at the Emmys, we hoped that the Golden Globes will correct the injustice and show some love for Michaela Coel’s I May Destroy You, but they failed to do so.
Despite its escapist quality, Emily in Paris was so mocked that it wasn’t even a part of the award season conversation, yet it managed to score two Golden Globe nominations.

A-list stars attending Golden Globes mostly ditched black and white and opted for vibrant colors. This trend has been a long time coming, and it seems it’s here to stay.
Seeing a dress that can double down as pants or shorts is one of the most refreshing things you can see on the red carpet, and we’re hoping there’s more to come.
Bows were the biggest trend of the night at this year’s Golden Globes, and everyone from Julianne Moore to Danai Gurira was spotted wearing them.
No better place than a red carpet to show up looking like a princess, so it’s safe to say we’ll be seeing more fairy tale-like gowns as awards season progresses.
A few stars were seen rocking velvet at the Golden Globes and after-parties. It’s one of the trends we desperately want to happen since it’s sophisticated and effortless at the same time.
