Indianapolis Colts’ left tackle Anthony Castonzo announced retirement on Tuesday. Castonzo played 10 seasons in the NFL, spending all of them with the Colts.

Castonzo didn’t give details about his retirement, but it is possible that the injuries he suffered in 2020 had something to do with it. The 32-year-old Castonzo was limited to 12 games this season, dealing with knee and ankle issues. He also missed the Colts’ playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills last week.

“I have given much to the game of football, but it has given me so much more,” said Castonzo in a statement released by the team. “I close the book on the football chapter of my life gifted with memories and moments I wouldn’t trade for anything. So thank you, last but far from least, to football.”

Anthony Castonzo entered the 2011 NFL Draft after four years of college football with Boston College, where he set a record for most consecutive career starts with 54. He was selected by the Colts with the No.22 selections.

Castonzo established himself as Indianapolis’ first choice at left tackle in his rookie year and went on to make 144 starts throughout his career. He was selected in the Pro Football Focus Second-team All-Pro in 2019.

When quarterback Philip Rivers signed a one-year deal with Indianapolis Colts in the offseason, many believed 2020 would be his last year as a pro. And it might be, but according to Colts’ head coach Frank Reich, this won’t happen because the 39-year-old veteran can’t play anymore.

Speaking with reporters on Monday, Reich said that Rivers could continue playing good football for “multiple years” if he wants to.

“At the way he’s playing right now … if he wants, he has multiple years of good football ahead of him,” said Reich.

In the past few seasons, Rivers said that he’s taking it year by year when it comes to his NFL career. He will probably keep the same mindset after the season wraps up and evaluate everything before making his final decision.

In case that Rivers decides to call it quits, he already has a head coaching gig at St. Michael Catholic High School waiting for him.

There is no doubt that Indianapolis would like to get Phillip Rivers back for few more years, especially considering his production in 2020. Despite struggling with inconsistency early on, Rivers bounced back to complete 68.1 percent of his passes and throw for 3,507 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also only has nine interceptions after committing 23 turnovers in 2019 while playing with LA Chargers.

“Never been a doubt in my mind the kind of football Philip Rivers could play and would play this year and has played,” Reich added.
