Boston Celtics have just secured themselves a franchise star for the next five years. As ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Sunday, the Celtics have agreed to a max-rookie extension with All-Star forward Jayson Tatum.

Reportedly, Tatum inked a five-year deal that will see him earn $163 million. The value of his contract can go up to $195 million if he makes the All-NBA team.

The feat shouldn’t come in question for the 22-year-old player as he made the All-NBA Third Team last season when he averaged career highs in points (23.4), rebounds (7.0), assists (3.0), and steals (1.4).

Jayson Tatum was drafted by the Celtics as a No. 3 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. Boston held the first overall pick but decided to move down in a trade that allowed the Philadelphia 76ers to take Markelle Fultz No. 1.

Since then, Tatum emerged as the face of the franchise, taking a bigger role in each of his following three seasons and helping the Celtics to remain a force in the East.

By signing Tatum, and getting Jaylen Brown to agree to a rookie extension last year, Boston has now secured themselves one of the best young duos in the league that already made two Conference finals together. This makes it just a matter of time before the Celtics are in the running for an NBA title again.
