Maggie Gyllenhaal made her directing debut with this adaptation of Elena Ferrante’s novel of the same name. The Lost Daughter centers on a woman whose vacation takes a dark turn after her past comes to haunt her, and its star-studded cast includes Olivia Colman, Dakota Johnson, and Jessie Buckley.
Passing serves as the feature directorial debut of the acclaimed actress Rebecca Hall, and it draws inspiration from y Nella Larsen’s classic novel. It stars Tessa Thompson and Ruth Negga as mixed-race childhood friends, whose reunion years later threatens both of their carefully constructed realities.
Unlike Hall and Gyllenhaal, Mélanie Laurent already has several directing credits under her belt and The Mad Women’s Ball is her latest directorial effort. It centers on a woman plotting her escape from an asylum in Paris after being unfairly institutionalized.

Penelope Cruz’s partnership with Chanel is a gift that keeps on giving. She wore several black and white looks by this fashion house, but none compares to this charming gown.
The rising star Milena Smit, who appears alongside Cruz in Parallel Mothers, also rocked our world in Venice with her sculptured black and white dress by Balmain.
Haddish also couldn’t resist this rising trend and attended the premiere of her latest movie The Card Counter in a Christian Siriano gown with a white bodice and elegant floor-sweeping train.
Gyllenhaal has always been a huge fan of simple colors, so it’s not a surprise to see her embrace the black and white trend in a floor-length Prada dress with dramatic white sleeves.

Cotillard is one of Chanel’s very best celebrity ambassadors, and her sparkly silver embellished dress made us fall in love with this luxury brand all over again.
We can always count on Jessica Chastain to deliver some amazing looks at the Cannes Film Festival, and she didn’t disappoint in the black strapless gown by Christian Dior.
Hadid managed to steal the show from the movie stars attending the opening night of the Cannes Film Festival in a vintage black and white dress by Jean Paul Gaultier.
Gyllenhaal is one of the members of the Cannes jury this year, so we’re expecting to see her rocking many amazing looks throughout the ceremony—starting with this classy caped Celine gown.
We can always count on Etro’s designs to rule the red carpet in Cannes, and Swanepoel kicked off this trend with her dazzling rose gold jumpsuit.
