The Jacksonville Jaguars’ quarterback Garnder Minshew III recovered from the thumb injury that kept him out for the past several weeks, but he won’t be getting his starting job back just yet. Jags’ head coach Dough Marrone instead decided to stick with Mike Glennon, saying that he feels the veteran gives them a better chance to win.

“We just feel like he gives us the best opportunity [to win],” said Marrone off his decision on Wednesday. “Thought he did some really good things last week, and hopefully we can build on them and move forward.”

With Minshew not fully recovered and rookie Jake Luton struggling, the Jags turned to Glennon for the Week 12 game against the Cleveland Browns. Despite making his first start since 2017, Glennon put up a good performance and threw for 235 yards and two touchdowns while not committing a single turnover.

“I think that he’s been practicing well and went in there and played well.” Marrone added. “Like I told him, I said, ‘Hey we expect you to play better this week.'”

Marrone concluded that while Glennon has his confidence now, he won’t hesitate to go back to Minshew or Luton if the 30-year-old player begins to struggle at some point.

However, the rest of the 2020 NFL season plays out, the chances are that neither of the trio will be under center for the Jags next year. Jacksonville is currently heading towards a high draft pick in 2021, owning a 1-10 record, and they will most likely use it on their next franchise quarterback.
