MLS could soon get its first woman head coach. According to The Athletic’s Pablo Iglesias Maurer, D.C. United is considering former the United States Women’s National Team boss Jill Ellis for their head coaching vacancy.

United parted ways with longtime manager Ben Olsen last week after a series of poor results that saw them pinned to the bottom of the Eastern Conference. Reportedly, the organization is taking its time with the search for a new head coach and is still early in the process, but Ellis is definitely one of the candidates they are strongly considering.

The two other names that are mentioned besides Ellis are ex-NYCFC boss Jason Kreis and former Schalke 04 manager David Wagner.

Jill Ellis enjoyed a storied coaching career that included leading USWNT to two consecutive FIFA World Cup wins in 2015 and 2019. In both years, she was also named the FIFA World Women’s Coach of the Year.

Ellis previously worked as a collegiate coach, most notably with UCLA Bruins, while also serving in various capacities with United States’ youth teams and the senior team.
