]]>2021’s MTV Video Music Awards took place last night, with plenty of performances from various stars of the music scene. Among all of those performances, here are the ones that stood out the most and really got people talking.
Lil Nas X and collaborator Jack Harlow took the stage to perform two of Lil Nas X’s new songs, “Industry Baby” and “Montero,” going along with the prison theme of the “Industry Baby” music video. Among other things, viewers loved seeing Lil Nas X unapologetically embracing his LGBT community, such as when he paid tribute to people living with HIV.
Another performance that was talked about quite a bit was Normani’s “Wild Side” performance which came a full two years after her 2019 VMAs performance of her previous single, “Motivation.” While some people complained about what appeared to be lip-syncing, most complimented Normani’s dancing and performance.
Olivia Rodrigo, who got the VMA’s award for Song of the Year, also took to the stage to perform her single “good 4 u.” People praised the performance’s aesthetic and energy, although some noted that Rodrigo seemed to falter toward the end of the song.

]]>The MTV VMAs happened on September 12 and tons of celebrities graced the red carpet. Amongst the sea of dresses and suits, two colors ruled the awards show—pink and purple. That’s right—there was a ton of pink and purple on the red carpet and each star wore it a bit differently. Check out the best pink and purple looks of the night.
The country singer’s look was all about the hat and this feathered purple one packed quite the statement. The best part was it matched her silk purple mini dress by Valentino Haute Couture. How can you now love the red gloves?
The host of the night, Doja Cat looked like a goth princess in this daringly short toga-inspired Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood with a black bustier and drapey plum fabric. The red platform heels really stepped up the drama.
Olivia Rodrigo was the big winner of the night with three awards and she turned heads in this strapless Atelier Versace Spring/Summer 2001 Haute Couture mermaid dress that featured layers of magenta tulle over a coral sating lining, making the dress look hot pink. In true Y2K fashion, she completed the look with butterfly earrings.
Lil Nas X wore a dreamy lavender Atelier Versace suit that screamed Prince. The bedazzled jacket was draped over his shoulder, revealing his toned chest and the fabric gathered on one hip, flowing off the side into an amazing train. He completed the look with butterfly earrings and matching rings.
The Cinderella star showed that no dress is complete without a giant bow and this satin Alexis Mabille Couture gown combines pink and red, which use to be a fashion taboo.
