New Orleans Saints’ star quarterback Drew Brees might have to spend more time on the sidelines than it was initially expected. According to the team’s head coach Sean Payton, the team currently doesn’t have a timetable on when Brees could return from his injury.

Brees hadn’t played since Week 10 when he suffered cracked ribs and a collapsed lung in a game against the San Francisco 49ers. Back then, the 41-year-old quarterback said he should get back on the field in “no time” while the Saints were also cautiously optimistic about his recovery.

More than three weeks later, however, Brees doesn’t seem like he’ll be back on the field anytime soon.

“I honestly wouldn’t be able to give you a time frame,” Payton told reporters when asked about his starting signal-caller. “He’s like a handful of the other guys that are down there working their tails off to get back healthy, 100 percent, and we’ll kind of see when that is.”

In Brees’ absence, New Orleans turned to their “Swiss-army knife” Taysom Hill at the quarterback position and were quite successful so far. In three games Hill played under center, Saints are 3-0 and have beaten their opponents with a 16-point margin on average.

 The Saints are currently leading the NFC with 10-2 and have already clinched the playoff spot. This allows them to take a cautious approach with Brees and puts them in no hurry to get the veteran back on the field.

Despite Hurrican Delta steadily approaching the Gulf Coast, the New Orleans Saints have decided to stay in town, despite offers from the NFL to evacuate to Indianapolis.

According to the team, the latest storm forecasts are projecting that the hurricane will be moving west and that New Orleans is not expected to be hit severely.

The Saints are scheduled to host the Los Angeles Chargers in New Orleans on Monday night. Reports claim that the NFL offered the Saints to move the game to Indianapolis since the Colts are scheduled to play the Browns in Cleveland in Week 5.

If the hurricane does end up hitting New Orleans worse than expected in the coming days, the NFL has contingency plans in place to evacuate the team to Indianapolis and make sure that the game is played. The last time the Saints had to use the Indianapolis facility because of extreme weather conditions was when Hurricane Gustav hit New Orleans in 2008.

Hurricane Delta was listed as a Category 4 storm earlier in the week but has since been downgraded to Category 2 status.
