In a battle of two bad teams on Thursday night, the New York Jets proved that they just might be the worst team in the NFL.

The Jets lost 37-28 to a Denver Broncos team that was led by third-string quarterback Brett Rypien, who signed with the team as an undrafted free agent.

Both the Broncos and Jets started off the season losing all of their first three games. Denver has been decimated by injury, losing their best player on defense for the year before the season started, Von Miller, and then losing their young, starting quarterback Drew Lock in Week 2 to a shoulder injury.

The Jets have been the Jets. Most expected them to be bad again this year, and they are, making boneheaded mistakes in nearly every phase of the game.

Jets QB Sam Darnold gave the team a spark after running for a 46-yard touchdown but was once again unable to have a good night throwing the ball, mainly due to terrible pass protection. He exited the game with a sprained shoulder after being slammed to the ground on a sack but battled to reenter the game after veteran Joe Flacco came in for a bit. The Jets offensive line was missing two key pieces, Mekhi Becton and Chuma Edoga, who both sat with injuries.

On the other side of the ball, Rypien looked good early but showed why he was a UDFA, tossing three interceptions, one that ended up being a pick-6, in the second half.

In the end, the team that made the least mistakes won. The Jets had 11 penalties called on them for 118 yards, six of which were personal fouls.

The New York Giants season isn’t off to a great start. Not only have they started their season with two losses, but they’ve also lost their star running back to a season-ending injury during the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears.

The Giants ended up losing the game 17-13 and Saquon Barkley had to be carried off the field after he fell to the ground in pain. It was later reported that the player tore his ACL and that he’ll be out for the rest of the season.

This injury is huge for the Giants as General manager Dave Gettleman drafted Barkley with the No. 2 pick in the 2018 draft and Barkley was supposed to be the safety net for second-year quarterback Daniel Jones.

When Barkley was drafted, Gettleman was criticized for taking a running back with such a high pick, especially when considering the other needs of the Giants at the time and how injury-prone the position is.

Since being hired in December 2017, Gettleman has struggled to put together a winning team and the Giant shave won only nine games and lost 25 games.

New offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, who was head coach for the Dallas Cowboys and helped turn them into a rushing team, had big plans for Barkley.

Now, the Giants have only two running back options—Wayne Gallman, who has only 80 carries over the last two seasons, and 29-year-old journeyman Dion Lewis.

The San Francisco 49ers had a lot to be proud of after crushing the Jets 31-13, but along the way, many important players suffered from serious injuries.

Defense star Nick Bosa, suffered from the most severe injury—reportedly tearing his ACL. Bosa was named Defensive Rookie of the Year last year and he was a top candidate for the Defensive Player of the Year award in 2020-2021, but this injury is season ending.

Another key member of the 49ers defensive front, Solomon Thomas, who was a huge part in the teams Super Bowl run last year, suffered from the same injury and he’ll likely be out for the rest of the season.

The injuries didn’t just impact the defense, starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffered from a high-ankle sprain which will probably cause him to miss a few weeks. Starting running back Raheem Mostert and his backup Tevin Coleman also had injuries during the game.

Kyle Shanahan, head coach of the 49ers, said that players were saying that the turf at Metlife Stadium was sticky and that they were worried they were going to wind up getting injured. The league is currently investigating this issue to try and come up with a solution.

San Francisco is scheduled to play in the same stadium against the other New York team, the Giants, next week.
