In one of the most pleasant Grammy surprises this year, the main fields are more female-dominated than ever. Seven out of eight contenders for album of the year are female acts, including SZA, Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, and Miley Cyrus.
This year’s best pop duo/group performance field includes some worthy contenders, but it’s missing such smash hits as “Calm Down” by Selena Gomez and Rema, “Escapism” by Raye and 070 Shake, and “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2” by PinkPantheress and Ice Spice.
Victoria Monét’s big break was a long time coming, and it’s finally her moment to shine in the spotlight. The R&B singer is one of the most nominated artists this year with seven nods, including record of the year and best new artist.
Several Latin artists were shockingly overlooked by the Recording Academy this year, including Peso Pluma for best new artist and Karol G’s Mañana Será Bonito for album of the year.
It’s not a shocker to see Barbie: The Album be nominated for best soundtrack, but that’s just the beginning! Four out of five nominees for best song written for visual media hail from this movie, while Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” and Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night” even scored nods for song of the year.
