It’s no secret that times have been challenging for the past few months and it’s important to find healthy ways to deal with the stress and anxiety that come along with the pandemic. The latest form of meditation that’s trending is sophrology, a dynamic form of meditation that’s ideal for people who struggle with regular meditation and mindfulness techniques. Sophrology helps clear your mind by engaging both your mind and body, allowing you to relax.

The meditative practice has been popular in parts of Europe for quite some time and it’s used in schools, businesses, and professional sports to boost performance and connect the person’s motivation with their performance and to help them prepare for important events.

“The aim is to empower you to unlock new potential,” says Dominique Antiglio, author of The Life-Changing Power of Sophrology. “It’s a unique way to use different modalities to help you become more aware of your mind, your body so you can be more calm, confident and empowered.”

The sessions combine breathwork, muscular relaxation, hypnosis, and visualization and they typically last 10-30 minutes. It’s pretty much what you would think of as meditation with some gentle movements and visualization techniques so you aren’t sitting with your legs crossed the whole time. One example of an exercise is placing your fingertips on certain parts of your body while you hold deep breaths and focus on relaxing that part of your body.

When sophrology is practiced daily, it promotes mental health and it helps your mind and body de-stress. It’s also a great tool for helping you sleep better and for preventing burnout.
