]]>The new season of The Crown is here and all people can talk about is the state of Princess Diane’s relationship with Prince Charles. We witnessed many mind-boggling scenes that show their failed marriage in a pretty unflattering light, but how many of them are actually true?
There’s no evidence that Princess Diane was dressed as a “mad tree” from a school production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream when she first met Prince Charles. He did, however, date her sister Sarah Spencer for a while, and it’s believed they met in a plowed field when he visited Althorp for a goose hunt.
Another truly unbelievable scene came in the form of Diane’s dance at the Royal Opera House to the beat of Billy Joel’s “Uptown Girl”. This performance really happened, but it was never captured on camera.
Watching Princess Diane roller skate through the Buckingham Palace surely felt like a fever dream. According to the show’s producer Oona O’Beirn, this scene actually happened and she even rode the bicycle inside the palace the night before getting married.
Princess Diana did really meet Camilla Parker Bowles for lunch after her engagement to Prince Charles, but this wasn’t the first time they ran into each other. There’s evidence they met before and moved in the same circles, but they were never friendly after Princess Diana learned more about the nature of Camilla’s relationship with Prince Charles.
