The world of UFC is filled with fighters who grandiosely announced their retirement from sport just to change their mind several months later. However, still-reigning UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov doesn’t intend to go down this road.

Nurmagomedov defeated Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 to defend his belt in late October and then shocked the MMA world by saying that this will be his last fight. Led by past experience, many people have labeled his retiree status as temporary, but the Dagestan fighter seems determined to stay true to his word.

During a recent chat with a group of young people, Nurmagomedov doubled down on the retirement statement and said that he has no interest to compete anymore.

“I have no competitive interest,” said Nurmagomedov according to RT Sport, before laying out plans for his future.

“Next year I will graduate,” he added. “I’d like to (build on) my thesis, do a masters course, dedicate more time to studying. I’ve bought sheep, I tend to my farm. I’d like to develop in this field a little.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov, who finished his career with a 29-0 record, decided to retire following his father’s death earlier this year. According to Nurmagomedov, he promised his mother that he wouldn’t fight anymore and intends to honor that promise.

Since retiring, Nurmagomedov ventured into several businesses. He recently launched his own mobile network, Eagle Mobile by Khabib, while also doing online coaching courses.

After weeks of going back and forth with UFC, MMA star Conor McGregor finally agreed to a fight with Dustin Poirier.

McGregor announced the news on his social media revealing that the fight is set to occur on January 23rd. The former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion added that he would like the fight to take place at Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium.

McGregor previously rejected the opportunity to fight Poirier within UFC, instead attempting to set up a charity exhibition match with the 31-year-old American in early September.

He recently became more open to the idea of returning to UFC but claimed he would only say yes if the event takes place by the end of 2020. UFC, on the other hand, wanted the fight in early 2021 and kept their stance despite McGregor’s ultimatum.

Faced with the possibility of missing out on a lucrative opportunity, the 32-year-old Irish fighter eventually caved.

“We didn’t have a date this year. We have everything laid out for this year, with world champions fighting for titles,” said UFC President Dana White when asked about McGregor’s request.  “He’s been offered Dustin Poirier on Jan. 23. It’s a yes or no answer.”

Conor McGregor hasn’t fought in UFC since January when he won the bout against Donald Cerrone via TKO. Poirier, on the other hand, defeated Dan Hooker via unanimous decision back in June.
