Washington Football Team has come full circle on the quarterback position and will reportedly start 2019’s No.15 pick Dwayne Haskins once again. The decision comes after the veteran signal-caller Alex Smith was ruled out for the upcoming game against the Seattle Seahawks due to a calf injury.

Smith strained his calf in the first half of 23-15 win against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, and the issue kept him from finishing the contest. Reportedly the injury isn’t too severe, but Washington is being cautious due to the 36-year-old quarterback’s injury history.

Washington opened 2020 with Dwayne Haskins as their starter, but the 23-year-old player struggled and was benched after just four weeks. The former Ohio State product only threw for 939 yards and four touchdowns while the team went 1-3 in these games.

The franchise then gave a shot to offseason acquisition Kyle Allen, who led the offense for the next four games and went 1-3 as well before suffering a season-ending knee injury.

With the lack of options, Washington turned to Alex Smith, who was returning to the field after being sidelined for almost two years with a gruesome leg injury. And it was a decision that changed the course of their season.

Washington went 4-1 with Smith at the helm, and they currently find themselves at the top of NFC East and with good chances of claiming the playoff spot.

While Washington Football Team’s head coach Ron Rivera insists there is a way for second-year quarterback Dwayne Haskins to reclaim his starting spot, it appears that former Ohio State product is already on the exit door.

Haskins isn’t even a backup at this point, and according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Washington would be interested in dealing with the 23-year-old player.

Rapoport reports that the organization isn’t openly shopping Haskins but would be willing to part way with the player for the “right price”.

As Rapoport points out, no one has approached Washington to inquire about Dwayne Haskins until this point. But this could be a good opportunity for a team to swoop in and get a talented player on the cheap. Haskins hasn’t shown much in NFL so far, but he has a high ceiling and could thrive if he finds himself in the right situation.

The list of teams that might take a gamble on Haskins includes New England Patriots, who are currently looking like they are in need of a retool. Dallas Cowboys also seems like an interesting option, especially considering the uncertainty revolving around Dak Prescott.

In 13 games (11 starts) he played as a pro, Haskins completed 59.6 percent of his passes, throwing for 2,304 yards and 11 touchdowns. He is 3-8 as a starter.
