Nicole Kidman – Being the Ricardos
Lady Gaga (House of Gucci) and Kristen Stewart (Spencer) were obvious front-runners for the best actress award at this year’s Golden Globes, so it was quite a shocker to see Nicole Kidman win instead.
Will Smith – King Richard
Will Smith’s win for his amazing portrayal in King Richard is fully deserved, but most people expected Benedict Cumberbatch to pick up the award for The Power of the Dog.
Mj Rodriguez – Pose
Mj Rodriguez was going against the likes of Jennifer Aniston and Elizabeth Moss in the category for the best actress in a drama series and managed to make history as the first trans actress to win a major acting category with Pose.
O Yeong-su – Squid Game
Squid Game made quite a splash and broke Netflix’s viewership record at the end of 2021, but no one really expected O Yeong-su to beat the likes of Billy Crudup and Kieran Culkin and win the award for the best supporting actor in a series.
“West Side Story” Stars
Rachel Zegler and Ariana DeBose were both going against pretty tough competition in their respective acting categories, and it was pretty surprising to see them collect awards for their work in West Side Story.

2021 American Music Awards
Zegler kicked off the promo tour as one of the presenters at this year’s AMAs. She delivered one of the most glamorous looks of the entire ceremony in this classy black and white tulle gown by Carolina Herrera.

The young actress has a soft spot for dreamy dresses in neutral colors. Her Christian Dior bustier gown from West Side Story’s NYC premiere is a case in point.
Los Angeles Premiere
Speaking of dreamy gowns, Zegler delivered one of her most whimsical looks to date at the LA premiere. She’ll soon play Snow White in the live-action remake of the animated classic, so it was a true delight to see her channel her inner Disney princess in this Elie Saab gown.

]]>2021 has been a rocky year for theaters, and Disney tried to bypass this problem by simultaneously releasing their projects in theaters and through Disney+. They’re ready to change their theatrical strategy, but what can be expected from their latest change?
Bigger Theatrical Windows
Instead of being released simultaneously on Disney+, many of the studio’s upcoming movies will get a 45-day exclusive run in cinemas. This shift will apply to Marvel’s Eternals (November 5), and 20th Century Studios projects The Last Duel (October 15), Ron’s Gone Wrong (October 22), West Side Story (December 10), and The King’s Man (December 22). Disney’s animated feature Encanto will get a 30-day exclusive theatrical window on November 24 before heading to Disney+.
Reasons Behind the Big Shift
According to Kareem Daniel, the chairman of Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution, they decided to update their theatrical plans due to “the tremendous box office success of [their] summer films” and expressed hope that the confidence in movie-going will continue to improve.
Daniel didn’t name any films in particular, but one of the movies she’s obviously referring to is Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This superhero flick shattered Labor Day records in the middle of the pandemic, but Black Widow, Cruella, and Free Guy also had a strong showing in the theaters.

]]>Live-action Disney remakes have been popping up everywhere in the last few years, and they’re here to stay. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is the latest classic to be slated for the live-action makeover, but are you familiar with its leading lady Rachel Zegler?
Don’t feel bad if your answer is “no” because you’re certainly not the only one. Zegler is still a newcomer, but her star will most probably explode later this year, when she stars in Steven Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story, taking over the role previously played by Natalie Wood.
West Side Story will mark Zegler’s film debut after she managed to beat over 30,000 applicants to win the role of María Vasquez. Despite her lack of experience in Hollywood, Zegler is no stranger to acting in school plays, and she found viral fame with some of her singing videos, most notably her cover of “Shallow” from A Star is Born.
The new version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will be directed by Marc Webb, who praised Zegler for her extraordinary vocal abilities and said she’s the perfect pick for the titular role due to her strength, intelligence, and optimism.
Before this project starts filming in 2022, Zegler will have a chance to prove her acting and singing abilities when West Side Story comes out on December 10th. We’ll also get to see her in Shazam! Fury of the Gods in 2022, where she’s playing “a mysterious key role”.

]]>There’s nothing like a catchy musical to get us in a good mood and after the difficult year we’ve been having, we could all use some spontaneous singing and dancing. This year is shaping up to have some exciting musical films coming to the big screen and we couldn’t be more excited for what’s in store! Between Broadway classics to new films, there are tons set for a 2021 debut and here are three we can’t wait to see.
West Side Story
Steven Spielberg’s take on the Broadway show is one of the most anticipated films of the year and you’ll have to wait until the end of the year for this one. Set for a December 10 release date, West Side Story tells the story of two teenagers from different ethnic backgrounds who fall in love in the ’50s in New York City. Ansel Elgort will play Jets leader Tony and Rachel Zegler will play Latino Shark Maria. Original cast member Rita Moreno will also have a guest appearance.
Cinderella
There have been a number of Cinderella remakes, but this one features a star-studded cast including Billy Porter as the Fairy Godmother, Camila Cabello as Cinderella, Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Charming, Missy Elliot as the Town Crier, Pierce Brosnan as the King, Idina Menzel as the Evil Stepmother, and James Corden as Mouse Footman. The film is set to debut on Amazon Prime in September 2021.
Dear Evan Hansen
Another Broadway favorite to hit the big screen is Dear Evan Hansen starring Ben Platt as Evan. Platt won a Tony for the Broadway role. The story follows Evan who ends up in a lie as his friend Connor’s parents mistake a letter he wrote for their son’s suicide note. The cast also includes Kaitlyn Dever, Amy Adams, Julianne Moore, and Amandla Stenberg. The film will be released on September 24.
