After a lot of anticipation, the first trailer for Madame Web is finally here, and it quickly went viral for an unusual reason. One line from the teaser trailer caught the attention of people online and inspired countless viral tweets along the way.

Despite being inspired by Marvel’s comics, Madame Web is not part of the MCU timeline, and it tells the standalone origin story of Cassandra Webb. She’s an EMT from Manhattan, whose life turns upside down once she discovers her clairvoyant abilities, which she must use to protect three young women destined for powerful futures.

The film’s most viral moment came around the 1:40 mark in the trailer, when Dakota Johnson’s titular heroine delivered the line, “He was in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders right before she died,” referring to Tahar Rahim’s character and the film’s main villain Ezekiel Sims.

This line perfectly captured the over-the-top energy of modern superhero films, and its unusual grammatical construction and Johnson’s delivery quickly transformed it into a viral sensation. Social media users on X (formerly known as Twitter) added the line to the photos from other movies to further emphasize its absurdity, including Johnson’s iconic interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
