TikTok completely changed the music industry in the past few years and introduced us to countless new artists along the way. The social media giant recently released their list of global songs of the summer of 2023, including music from Mae Stephens, Fifty Fifty, and Ariana Grande.

If you’re expecting this long to feature songs that have been leading the charts all summer long, such as Olivia Rodrigo’s “Vampire” and “Seven” by Jungkook and Latto – think again. The list consists of the most played songs from across this social media platform, ranked by the number of video creations each song got over the summer.

Mae Stephens topped the list with “If We Ever Broke Up”, followed by “What It Is (Solo Version)” by Doechii and “Girls Like Me Don’t Cry (Sped Up)” by Thuy. Several well-known artists made it to the list including Fifty Fity, Ariana Grande and Future, and Aqua with “Barbie Girl”.

Paul Hourican, global head of music content & partnerships at TikTok, praised the artists who made the cut – both new and rediscovered – for giving us a summer to remember.

“You can never predict what’s going to be TikTok’s Song of the Summer and that’s the beauty of the platform. It’s been another summer of discovery with our community embracing a diverse mix of genres, sounds, and incredible new talent,” said Hourican in a press release.
