Treat Your Closet to Andrea Iyamah’s Latest Summer Collection

2020 was all about ditching “real clothes” and opting for more comfortable wear. Some fashion outlets were quick to anticipate the pandemic would change the way we dress forever. But fashion has always echoed the times and forever is a long time. Come 2021, as we look forward to a Covid-free summer, fashion brands are testing the waters when it comes to their collections.

One fashion brand we’re more than hyped about is Andrea Iyamah. With an emphasis on accessible fashion, the brand sports a range of flowy dresses that are both comfortable and trendy, as well as flattering swimwear; with designs inspired by ethnic cultures and organic design.

Founded in 2011 by Nigerian fashion designer Andrea Dumebi Iyamah, the brand aims to celebrate Iyamah’s African roots and cultures beyond. “My Nigerian roots are quite a part and parcel of me that it comes quite natural to include some elements that portray the culture,” she shared with The Folklore.

Describing her culture as energetic, vibrant, and confident—Iyamah introduces these elements into her designs, with the goal to build an African-owned brand that is rich and bold in style. Her resort wear line in particular is worth taking note of, with African-inspired designs such as a vine print wrapper and a puff sleeve top with a coconut print pattern.

According to Iyamah, having the studio flagship in Nigeria keeps her inspiration fresh and relevant, which shows throughout her designs. Fashion magazines were quick to catch on, with features in Vogue, Forbes, InStyle, and Huff Post.
