TV Shows Inspired by the COVID-19 are Already Here

We’ve watched several benefit concerts, special episodes, and web series that tackled the coronavirus pandemic amid the lockdown. Content creators are now taking things to a new level with drama and comedy series inspired by the current state of the world.

Netflix announced the cast of their upcoming anthology series Social Distance last week, conceived and shot remotely during the quarantine. Its cast includes Danielle Brooks, Mike Colter, Oscar Nunez, and many more—including their family members, who made it possible for this show to be shot safely at cast members’ homes.

Social Distance will showcase “the power of the human spirit in the face of uncertainty and isolation”, but it’s not the first show with this premise. Love in the Time of Corona premiered on Freeform on August 22nd, and it follows a group of individuals searching for love and connection while social distancing.

TV shows set during the first few months of the COVID-19 pandemic were also shot outside the US. Canadian series Lockdown centered on a group of friends trying to solve a mystery in their neighborhood during the social distancing era. British comedy Staged showed Michael Sheen and David Tennant playing fictionalized versions of themselves as they try to rehearse their next play over the internet.
