Both Sony and Disney are tirelessly working on their Marvel movies right now, but their input will look quite different in 2024. Surprisingly enough, Sony will release more films based on Marvel comics than Disney next year, but what’s the reason behind this strange phenomenon?

Sony’s Spider-Man Universe currently includes two Venom films and Morbius, and they’ll be joined by three more in 2024: Madame Web starring Dakota Johnson (February 14), Kraven the Hunter starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson (August 30), and Venom 3 starring Tom Hardy (November 8).

Unlike the MCU, which is currently in Phase Five, Sony’s Spider-Man Universe is still in its early days. There are countless intriguing characters still left to explore, and Sony is open to tackling these stories after Venom films found box office success, despite failing to impress the critics.

As for Disney, they only have one MCU film on the way next year: Deadpool 3 on July 26, which took over the release date of Captain America: Brave New World. The Hollywood strikes played a role in this shift, but it’s a good decision overall because Deadpool 3 has the power to revitalize the struggling franchise.

Despite having only one MCU movie on the way in 2024, Disney+ is releasing several new shows in this universe, starting with Echo and Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. Ironheart and Daredevil: Born Again are also on the way, along with several animated series such as Marvel Zombies and Spider-Man: Freshman Year.
