Female Empowerment is Taking Over the Music Industry

Just last week, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion released their song “WAP” and once you get past the booty shaking and breast-shaped water fixtures, you realize the song is all about female empowerment. Cardi and Megan are female powerhouses that ooze sexuality, independence, and dominance and in a music genre where we’re used to seeing males objectify females, we’re glad these artists are flipping the script. Instead of shying away from their sexuality, Cardi and Megan own it while celebrating other female celebrities and musicians including Normani, Rosalía, Mulatto, Sukihana, Rubi Rose, and Kylie Jenner.

Their song is far from the only one released this year that celebrates women. Take a look at our other picks for songs by women artists that have empowering messages.

Demi Lovato “I Love Me”

“I Love Me” is all about accepting your flaws and realizing that they’re what makes you beautiful. Some lines to incorporate into your life include, “I wonder when I love me is enough?,” and “I’m a ten out of ten, don’t you ever forget it.”

Selena Gomez “Rare”

Gomez’s song is about taking care of yourself and not needing validation from anyone else, which can be heard in the lyrics “But I know that I’m special” and “Oh, why don’t you recognize I’m so rare?”

Doja Cat “Boss B***H

Doja Cat’s song that appeared on the Birds of Prey: The Album, is every bit as danceable as it as about female empowerment. It shows that there’s nothing more dangerous than a confident woman or a boss b***h.
