HBO has been plotting a TV adaptation of the Harry Potter books for quite some time, and this project is finally taking shape. After months of casting rumors, HBO officially confirmed several cast members who’ll bring the magic to our small screens as members of the Hogwarts staff.
John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore
The acclaimed actor John Lithgow, who won six Emmy Awards for his roles in The Crown, Dexter, and 3rd Rock from the Sun, will be in charge of portraying Albus Dumbledore.
Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall
The new HBO series will also star Janet McTeer, whose filmography includes two Oscar-nominated roles in Tumbleweeds and Albert Nobbs, plus TV shows Damages, The White Queen, Jessica Jones, and Ozark.
Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape
Paapa Essiedu, whose filmography includes TV shows I May Destroy You, Gangs of London, The Lazarus Project, and Black Mirror, joined the cast in the role of Severus Snape.
Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid
Rubeus Hagrid will be portrayed by one of the most beloved British comedians, Nick Frost, best known for his roles in Edgar Wright’s Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End opposite Simon Pegg.
Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell
Luke Thallon, who mostly starred in stage productions in the past, will make his television debut in the role of Professor Quirinus Quirrell.
Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch
The Welsh actor Paul Whitehouse, whose notable credits include the films Alice in Wonderland, The Death of Stalin, and The Personal History of David Copperfield, has been recently added to the cast as Argus Filch.
