Between whipped coffee and turmeric-milk lattes, we’ve seen a lot of drink trends start on TikTok and the latest is “proffee”, or protein coffee. It’s taking off on TikTok and it combines protein powder and coffee. But is it actually healthy? Here’s what you need to know about the latest drink trend.

While scrolling through TikTok you’ve probably seen users frequenting their local Starbucks or Dunkin ordering an espresso over ice and topping it off with an entire carton of vanilla Premier Protein. The drink is a way to get protein and caffeine in one tasty drink. The protein powder has been around since the ’90s, but it’s become more popular recently due to being keto-friendly and gluten-free. It contains whey protein and there are only four grams of carbs per serving.

Protein powders are better for you than other coffee creamers, specifically ones with whey protein because the body digests them slower and it helps keep you full longer. Because the sugar is swapped for whey protein in this drink, you won’t experience your blood sugar levels crash.

While TikTokers go on and on about how drinking proffee will curb your appetite until lunch, it shouldn’t replace an entire meal. Proffeee is best used to add more protein to your meals or snacks. With that being said, it’s a great supplement for getting protein.

So, are you ready to try proffee?
