We’re constantly hearing about new types of plant-based milk and the latest trend among healthy food enthusiasts is pistachio milk. Is this pale green beverage just the thing your life’s been missing? Keep reading to find out.

The main reason pistachio milk is still not as popular as soy or almond milk is its price. You can hardly find a carton that costs less than $8 and that’s a steep price for milk when there are other healthy alternatives that cost less. However, there’s no reason you can’t make your own pistachio milk at home if you want to make it a part of your breakfast or add to your afternoon latte.

Making your own pistachio milk is easy but it can get a bit messy. It involves soaking some pistachios in water overnight, rinsing and draining them, then blending together with water. The messy part is draining the liquid through a cloth in order to separate the milk from the pulp. Once you’re done, you can store your homemade pistachio milk in the fridge for up to three days.
