Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem may not get its film follow-up until August 13, 2027, but fans of that animated take on the franchise have another story to look forward to first. IDW is continuing the Mutant Mayhem version of the Turtles in a new comic miniseries called Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Coastal Chaos, which is set to arrive this fall.
The series sends the Turtles to the Jersey Shore for what should have been a laid-back vacation, only for the trip to be disrupted by a giant creature in the ocean. Writer Andrew Joustra and artist Louis Joyce, both of whom worked on the earlier Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles run, are back for this one. According to the report, the beach setting gives the team a chance to lean into a lighter summer vibe, with the Turtles and Splinter enjoying time by the water alongside Mondo Gecko and Ray Fillet.
The ocean threat is a new version of Armaggon, a villain who dates back to the late 1980s and early 1990s in Archie’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures comics. He has also appeared in the 2012 Nickelodeon animated series and the ongoing IDW comic line, and has been portrayed in different ways across those versions. This new take appears to fit the Mutant Mayhem style. The story is being released as a standalone limited series, similar to the recently finished Tales run, which told its story in two separate three-issue arcs.
One small detail in the preview art also stands out for longtime fans: Michelangelo is shown wearing a pink-and-blue swimsuit that matches the 1990 action figure “Mike, the Sewer Surfer.” The comic is available for pre-order until August 3, and the first issue is scheduled for September 9.
