With Earth Day approaching on April 22 and more beauty and skincare brands becoming interested in packaging and formulas that are better for the environment, it’s time to start incorporating these values into your lifestyle. Eco-friendly products have become super popular, but with all of the terms, it’s hard to know what’s what when it comes to natural beauty. Here’s what you should know about natural cosmetics.

Natural

A product can be labeled as natural even if it contains just one percent mineral, plant, or nature-derived ingredients. Products that are 100% natural have shorter shelf lives because there are no preservatives.

Organic

Organic products are manufactured with sustainable ingredients that follow organic processes in which the soil doesn’t have pesticides or toxins and no chemicals are sprayed.

Clean

Clean describes beauty products without sulfates, petroleum derivatives, phthalates, parabens, pesticides, artificial colors, silicones, and synthetic fragrances.

Vegan

Vegan products don’t use animals or animal byproducts in their ingredients or during manufacturing. Honey, dairy, biotin, and lactic acid are some products that aren’t used. The products also can’t be tested on animals.

Fair Trade

Fair trade refers to the imported ingredients like argan oil, shea butter, and coconut oil. It means that they are purchased at a fair price, supporting the community projects and local farmers who grow them.
