Our favorite stars were shining brighter than ever in shimmering metallic dresses at the Golden Globes. We’ve seen the likes of Taylor Swift, Elizabeth Debicki, Natalie Portman, and Julia Garner fully embracing this trend.
Barbiecore
Barbie was the most-nominated film at this year’s Golden Globes, so it was only fitting for its star Margot Robbie to hit the red carpet in pink, but so did Jennifer Lopez and Hailee Steinfeld!
Paint the Town Red
Red was definitely the most popular color at this year’s Golden Globes, and we’ve seen everyone from Florence Pugh and Selena Gomez to Heidi Klum and Ayo Edebiri putting their own twist on this trend.
Black & White
Black and white dresses were also all the rage this year, and several stars decided to wear both colors at once, including Meryl Streep, Carey Mulligan, Pom Klementieff, and Lily Gladstone.

]]>After a lot of anticipation, Golden Globe nominations are finally in, with Barbie and Succession leading the way with nine nods each. The HFPA made some pretty great choices this year, but some of this year’s nominations still left us scratching our heads.
Snub: Best Musical/Comedy
It was quite a shocker to see several hit musicals, including The Color Purple, The Little Mermaid, and Wonka shot out of the best comedy or musical field to make room for No Hard Feelings starring Jennifer Lawrence.
Surprise: Foreign Films Make a Cut
It was quite refreshing to see foreign films Anatomy of a Fall and The Zone of Interest, receive nods for the best drama film, while Fallen Leaves’ Alma Pöysti even broke into the competitive acting field.
Snub: Abbot Elementary Stars
Abbott Elementary will be in the running for the best comedy/musical series this year, but Quinta Brunson is the only member of its ensemble cast to receive an acting nod.
Surprise: Saltburn Love
Barry Keoghan and Rosamund Pike received acting nods for their performances in Saltburn, with the latter even booting front-runners Viola Davis (Air) and America Ferrera (Barbie) out of the star-studded best supporting actress field.
Snub: Harrison Ford
The HFPA has a habit of showering A-list stars with love, but they still gave Harrison Ford zero nominations this year, showing no love for his performances in 1923 and Shrinking.

Tom Cruise proved that big action blockbusters can still earn big bucks and attract people to movie theaters with Top Gun: Maverick, but it wasn’t enough to earn him the best actor nomination.
Surprise: Ana de Armas – Blonde
Given the bad reception that Netflix’s Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde has received, we didn’t really expect Ana de Armas to be nominated for any major awards this season.
Snub: Female Directors
Zero female directors received nominations at this year’s Golden Globes and the absence of Sarah Polley’s Women Talking and Gina Prince-Bythewood’s The Woman King is the most glaring.
Snub: Till
Danielle Deadwyler’s performance as Emmett Till’s grieving mother in Till sparked major Oscar buzz and the film’s omission at this year’s Golden Globes proves that the HFPA still has a long way to go in terms of diversity.
Surprise: Wednesday
It’s only been a few weeks since Wednesday came out and made quite a splash on Netflix and the teen fantasy series was so addictive that it even managed to win over the HFPA.

Will Smith – King Richard
Will Smith’s win for his amazing portrayal in King Richard is fully deserved, but most people expected Benedict Cumberbatch to pick up the award for The Power of the Dog.
Mj Rodriguez – Pose
Mj Rodriguez was going against the likes of Jennifer Aniston and Elizabeth Moss in the category for the best actress in a drama series and managed to make history as the first trans actress to win a major acting category with Pose.
O Yeong-su – Squid Game
Squid Game made quite a splash and broke Netflix’s viewership record at the end of 2021, but no one really expected O Yeong-su to beat the likes of Billy Crudup and Kieran Culkin and win the award for the best supporting actor in a series.
“West Side Story” Stars
Rachel Zegler and Ariana DeBose were both going against pretty tough competition in their respective acting categories, and it was pretty surprising to see them collect awards for their work in West Side Story.

If we had to pick a single color that was ruling the red carpet at this ceremony, it would be black. From extravagant gowns to mini suits, everyone from Vanessa Kirby to Tina Fey was wearing black this year.
Fairytale Moment
No award ceremony is complete without dreamy gowns that look straight out of a fairytale. Kaley Cuoco, Maria Bakalova, and Anya Taylor-Joy are some of the stars who had their princess moment this time around.
Retro Vibes
Dresses with a retro vibe are our personal favorite trend from this year’s Golden Globes, and we’re hoping to see more stars giving us look similar to Julia Garner’s and Emma Corrin’s.
Bare Shoulders
Shoulder baring gowns were dominating the red carpet, and they came in many different shapes and forms. From one shoulder and strapless dresses to gowns with striking neck details, Lily Collins, Regina King, Tiffany Haddish, and many more couldn’t resist this trend.
Oversized Gowns
Several stars embraced the “go big or go home” approach to fashion at the Globes. Cynthia Erivo, Rosamund Pike, and Nicola Coughlan were among the stars who hit the red carpet in oversized, over-the-top gowns.

Surprise: Music
Sia‘s directorial debut Music wasn’t well-received by the critics and it’s yet to come out in the U.S., but that didn’t stop it from taking the nomination for best musical or comedy from other worthy contenders.
Snub: Da 5 Bloods
Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods was always a dark-horse in this year’s Golden Globe race, but it’s still disappointing to see it shut out of the best motion picture – drama category.
Surprise: Female Directors
Golden Globes made history by nominating three female directors this year—Chloe Zhao for Nomadland, Emerald Fennell for Promising Young Woman, and Regina King for One Night in Miami.
Snub: I May Destroy You
After the snub at the Emmys, we hoped that the Golden Globes will correct the injustice and show some love for Michaela Coel’s I May Destroy You, but they failed to do so.
Surprise: Emily in Paris
Despite its escapist quality, Emily in Paris was so mocked that it wasn’t even a part of the award season conversation, yet it managed to score two Golden Globe nominations.
