While 2020 has been a year many of us can’t wait to be over, we’ve also discovered many new talents and skills including learning how to be our own makeup artists. And that’s about to get a lot easier now that Google has partnered with ModiFace and Perfect Corp. to allow you to virtually try-on beauty products. This literally takes the guesswork out of shopping for makeup online, which is hard to do as you can’t know how the product will look on your skin tone.

ModiFace, founded by L’Oréal, and Perfect Corp., which owns YouCam, have collaborated with Google to allow customers to try-on products from brands including L’Oréal Paris, MAC, Black Opal, and Charlotte Tilbury before buying them.

The new feature was rolled out on December 17, and to use it, download the Google app and search for a specific beauty product like lipsticks or mascaras. After you find it, you can see what it looks like on different skin tones, compare the textures and shades, and virtually try on the products until you find what you’re searching for.

This feature really is a game changer in the beauty industry and we hope other brands are added to the new feature.

Google Robotics team successfully managed to get a robot to teach itself how to walk without programming its moves. They used a type of machine learning that relies on psychology concepts in order to avoid programming specific commands related to walking, and it worked – the robot basically thought itself how to walk.

Self-taught robotic machines are still undeveloped, which makes this discovery pretty important. It basically proved that the concept works, and you can see how they did it in the video below.

The lead author of the study, Sehoon Ha, published a paper in which he describes how difficult this was. He explained that you can model a road to the tiniest detail, and it still doesn’t help the robot walk down the unfamiliar path. “For this reason, we aim to develop a deep [reinforcement learning] system that can learn to walk autonomously in the real world,” he wrote.

The robot is so advanced, it didn’t even require manual resets during training. The previous robot Ha made in December 2018, for instance, required 100 manual resets.

Macaulay Culkin will always be remembered as
Kevin McCallister, the little troublemaker from the Home Alone franchise, and he recently went back to his roots.

The former child star gave us the best Christmas present ever by appearing in an amazing Google ad, inspired by the movie that put him on the map.

Culkin shared the hilarious clip with his Twitter followers by writing, “Have you ever wondered what Kevin McCallister is like as an adult?  Me neither. But just in case you’re curious you should totally watch this ad.”

Since we’re all suckers for nostalgia, the video instantly went viral because it perfectly captured the spirit of the Home Alone movies we grew up with.

Culkin stepped back into Kevin’s shoes once again, and recreated some of the most iconic scenes from the original – but with a twist. He has Google Assistant to help him out this time around, and he seems like a well-adjusted human being thanks to it.

Why waste your time terrorizing would-be home invaders, when you can just eat mac ‘n’ cheese while Google does all the work?
