]]>After months of anticipation, the Emmy nominations are finally in, and they’re honoring a long list of well-deserved shows. The list of contenders for this year’s ceremony brought several pretty big snubs and surprises, and here are five that got everyone talking.
Some of the most surprising nominations of the year hail from the outstanding comedy series category. PEN15, Emily in Paris, and Cobra Kai will be competing against obvious front-runners, such as Ted Lasso and The Flight Attendant.
Steve McQueen gave us one of the best anthology series of 2020 with Small Axe, with amazing performances from Letitia Wright and John Boyega, but the Emmy voters weren’t paying attention.
The majority of contenders in the outstanding drama series category were easy to predict, but it was a surprise to see Amazon’s superhero satire The Boys make the cut.
Kidman received Golden Globe and SAG Award nominations for her performance in The Undoing, so it was a surprise not to see her repeat the same success at the Emmys.
Seeing Hamilton score a nomination for the outstanding variety special wasn’t surprising, but the acting nomination for seven of its cast members wasn’t something we expected.

]]>The coronavirus has disrupted theaters this year and lead to the delay of many highly anticipated movies. Disney tried to find a way to adapt to the global pandemic by canceling the theatrical release of several projects and making them available on Disney+.
The story of a criminal child prodigy trying to find his father was the first Disney project to forgo its theatrical release and premiere exclusively on the studio’s streaming platform.
Hamilton is probably the only project that found success with its digital release so far. Critics were kind to the movie adaptation of the beloved musical and over a third of Disney+ subscribers tuned in to watch it.
This star-studded fantasy film hit Disney+ in late August and it tells the tale of a gorilla named Ivan who tries to escape from captivity with the help of an elephant named Ruby.
Mulan was released theatrically in several countries where theaters had re-opened, but it was also made available for purchase on Disney+. The price point of $29.99 angered the public, but Disney CEO Bob Chapek felt it was the only way to return the investment.
Pixar’s latest movie was subject to several delays and it will arrive at Disney+ on Christmas. It centers on a struggling musician who is transported out of his body and must find his way back.
