It’s been over a month since FX and Hulu unveiled the hit documentary Framing Britney Spears, and people still can’t stop talking about it. Other TV networks and streaming services are currently trying to replicate their success by plotting their own documentaries about Spears’ troubled life.

Most recently, the BAFTA-winning journalist Mobeen Azhar revealed he’s developing a documentary about the #FreeBritney movement for BBC. He met many people close to the singer and talked to some of her super fans in an attempt to questions the industry, fandom, and the laws that led to Spears’ conservatorship.

BBC isn’t the only network developing their own documentary about the “Toxic” singer in the wake of Framing Britney Spears. This news comes shortly after Netflix announced they entrusted the true-crime documentary filmmaker Erin Lee Carr with developing a Britney Spears documentary for this streaming service.

Spears’ fans weren’t too thrilled about this news, because it’s highly unlikely the singer will profit off of these projects. Competing documentaries, however, aren’t anything new and it’s not difficult to develop them pretty quickly due to their low cost. We’re yet to see if they’ll have anything new to say, but Spears received a wave of support after the original documentary made us re-examine the role that the tabloid media plays in celebrities’ lives.

When E! announced the end of Keeping Up with the Kardashians earlier this year, some people were quick to announce the death of reality TV as we know it—but they couldn’t have been more wrong. Guilty pleasure reality shows are alive and kicking, and they’ll be going stronger than ever in 2021.

The Bachelor, Survivor, and 90-Day Fiancé have been thriving this year, and many new players entered the reality TV scene as well. After years of giving us prestige dramas and inventive comedies, major streamers came to terms with the fact that reality TV is much more addictive and comes with a lower price tag.

The Circle and Love Is Blind premiered on Netflix this year and found such an enormous success that they’ve been renewed for additional two seasons. This streaming giant is plotting at least 10 reality shows for 2021 at the moment, and we’re expecting this list will get much longer in the months to come.

To make the whole thing even more amazing, Netflix won’t be the only major streamer relying on reality TV next year. Hulu signed a multi-year partnership with the Kardashians after their departure from E!, and they’re also plotting a series that will center on TikTok stars Dixie and Charli D’Amelio and the rest of their family.

2019 has been an amazing year for teen dramas, but we had to wait all the way until October to watch one of the best ones. After years spent in development hell, the adaptation of John Green’s cult novel Looking for Alaska is finally here, and it’s the perfect show to watch on a rainy day.

Hulu’s new teen drama centers on Miles “Pudge” Halter, who enrolls in a new boarding school in the search of “the great perhaps.” He forms an unlikely friendship with fellow misfits Chip “The Colonel” Martin, Takumi Hikohito, and the enigmatic Alaska Young.

When it first came out in 2005, Green’s breakout novel won us over with its authentic look at teen angst, friendship, and love. Its adaptation proves this novel has stood the test of time, and it does a great job bringing it to a whole new generation despite its seemingly outdated setting.

Looking for Alaska will also give you nostalgia overload because it was created by the masterminds behind our favorite guilty pleasure shows The O.C. and Gossip Girl.

When it comes to comparing it with the biggest teen hits of 2019, it may lack the visual extravaganza of Euphoria and the humor of Sex Education, but it makes up for it with relatable characters, a bittersweet plotline, and a big heart.
