]]>Shortly after announcing the sequel to Cruella, Disney decided to give another hit summer movie a much-deserved follow-up. Jungle Cruise is coming back for another ride, and here’s why it makes total sense that the studio decided to green-light its sequel.
It’s only been a month since Jungle Cruise came out, but it’s already made $187 million worldwide against a $200 million budget, in addition to $30 million from Disney+ Premier Access in its opening weekend. It’s been estimated that the movie has to make around $500 million worldwide to break even, but could it be considered a hit if that doesn’t happen?
Jungle Cruise won’t make Disney as much money as its pre-pandemic projects, but box office numbers aren’t the only ones that come into play. This film is based on a theme park ride of the same name, and the movie will increase its popularity with younger generations.
Jungle Cruise 2 will see the return of many of its MVPs, including the director Jaume Collet-Serra and screenwriter Michael Green. Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt both agreed to return to their respective roles, but it’s still unclear if they’ll be joined by Édgar Ramírez, Jack Whitehall, Jesse Plemons, and Paul Giamatti.
