]]>There’s always a lot of anticipation leading up to the announcement of the next Met Gala theme, and next year’s event is shaping up to be one for the books. “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” will serve as Met Gala’s next theme, and it will span 400 years of fashion history.
The Costume Institute’s next exhibition will celebrate the beauty of dormant, fragile garments that have long been forgotten because they’ve been rarely seen in public before. Approximately 250 items from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection will be displayed in an entirely new way, for the whole world to see.
The exhibition will feature everything from 17th-century English Elizabethan-era garments to dresses by such legendary designers as Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, and Hubert de Givenchy to creations of the 21st industry titans, including Phillip Lim, Stella McCartney, and Connor Ives.
Max Hollein, The Met’s director and CEO, promised this new exhibition will push the boundaries of our imagination and invite us to experience the multisensory facets of different fashion garments.
“‘Sleeping Beauties’ will heighten our engagement with these masterpieces of fashion by evoking how they feel, move, sound, smell, and interact when being worn, ultimately offering a deeper appreciation of the integrity, beauty, and artistic brilliance of the works on display,” said Hollein in a statement to Vogue.
The “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibition will first see the light of day during the Met Gala on May 6, 2024, before running from May 10 to September 2, 2024.

Black and white was certainly Lagerfeld’s favorite color combo. Celebrities at Met Gala honored him by wearing these colors, including Cardi B, Olivia Rodrigo, Julia Garner, Lily Collins, and Michelle Yeoh.
Flower Power
The Met Gala red carpet was blooming thanks to the stars wearing rosettes and other floral designs. Rihanna, Emily Blunt, Chloe Fineman, and Liu Wen were only some of the celebrities to embrace this trend.
Lagerfeld Tributes
Some stars opted for very direct Karl Lagerfeld tributes, from dyeing their hair platinum blonde (Jessica Chastain), wearing his designs (Olivia Wilde), having his name splattered over their dress (Jeremy Pope), and even dressing as his cat Choupette (Doja Cat).

]]>The Met Gala is one of many events that were put on hold in the face of the global pandemic last year, but it’s set to make a triumphant return this fall. The 2021 Met Gala has officially been announced, and the more we learn about it, the more excited we are.
Theme
This year’s Met Gala will celebrate the opening of the Costume Institute’s next exhibition, titled “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”. The theme of American independence will continue with the second part of the exhibition “In America: An Anthology of Fashion”, set to open next year.
Hosts
Honorary Met Gala chairs Tom Ford, Adam Mosseri, and Anna Wintour will be in a pretty good company this year. The upcoming event will be co-hosted by a slate of multi-talented young stars—Oscar-nominated actor Timothée Chalamet, Grammy-winning singer Billie Eilish, poet and activist Amanda Gorman, and tennis champion Naomi Osaka.
Date
The Met Gala usually takes place on the first Monday of May, but as it’s too late that, it will be held on September 13th instead. The masterminds behind this event are hoping they’ll be able to go back to normal next year and host an extravagant gala on May 2nd, 2022.
