]]>There’s always a lot of anticipation leading up to Spotify Wrapped, which reveals which songs, albums, and artists you’ve listened to the most on this streaming service. The 2023 Spotify Wrapped is finally here, along with several top ten lists that celebrate the music that defined the year behind us.
Spotify Wrapped became available on November 29 to 574 million users of this music streaming app, helping them celebrate their year of listening. It all kicks off with the “Me in 2023” card, which reveals the listening character specific to your tastes and habits on Spotify.
Your personalized Spotify Wrapped page also includes the “Sound Town” feature, which matches you with one city based on your listening habits, along with the top five genres, and top five artists. “Your Artist Messages”, which includes a video message from an artist from your list, is also available through this feature.
In addition to finally allowing its users to unlock Spotify Wrapped, Spotify also unveiled lists of the top ten global artists, songs, and albums of the year. Taylor Swift was the most-streamed artist of the year with over 26.1 billion global streams, and Spotify marked the occasion with 21-piece puzzle billboards that appeared all around the world.
Miley Cyrus’ smash hit “Flowers” topped the list of the most-streamed songs with 1.6 billion global streams, while Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti became the most-streamed album for the second year in a row with over 4.5 billion streams globally.

]]>We’ve entered that time of the year when “year-in-review” lists are popping up everywhere, and Apple Music embraced this trend. The popular music streaming service unveiled its list of the top songs of 2023, but can you guess who made it to the No. 1 spot?
Smash hits that we’ve been listening to all year long, such as “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus and “Kill Bill” by SZA, did pretty great on Apple Music’s list, but none of them took the No. 1 spot. They had to take the back seat to Morgan Wallen’s chart-topping single “Last Night”.
This is quite a shocker considering that “Last Night” wasn’t a huge hit outside of the country circles, but its success could’ve been expected. Wallen’s loyal fanbase helped him top the Billboard Hot 100 chart with this song and spend 16 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1, despite making little to no impact outside of North America and Oceania.
According to Apple’s official statement, this year’s list feels more global than ever because it includes several fast-rising regional acts holding their own. They singled out Mexican superstar Peso Pluma, K-pop girl group NewJeans, Japanese duo Yoasobi, and breakout Nigerian star Rema as proof of the list’s global appeal.

Miley Cyrus gave us the first true pop bop of 2023 with “Flowers”, which became her second No. 1 single atop the Billboard Hot 100 following its release. This self-empowering song is all about finding strength within yourself after a tough breakup and loving yourself better than anyone else could.
Shakira – “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53”
While Cyrus opted to subtly call out her ex in “Flowers”, Shakira chose a different approach and went all-in. She broke the internet and several viewership records with this revenge anthem, which very directly addressed the fallout of her relationship with Gerard Piqué.
SZA – “Kill Bill”
Revenge is one of the main motifs on SZA’s new album SOS and no song encapsulates it better than “Kill Bill”. Inspired by the iconic movie of the same name, SZA sings about killing his ex and his new girlfriend in this hit song, but “Kill Bill” is mostly rooted in fantasy, unlike the previous two songs.

This amazing collaboration between Lil Nas X and Miley Cyrus was a long time coming, especially since he previously collaborated with her dad Billy Ray Cyrus on “Old Town Road”.

Doja Cat and Lil Nas X both dedicated their careers to changing the way we look at rap and experimenting with many different genres, and “Scoop” proves they’re a match made in heaven.

]]>We’re almost at the end of Pride Month and to celebrate Miley Cyrus has a huge concert on Peacock. Titled Stand by You, the special premiered on June 25, and it included tons of amazing performances including the singer’s greatest hits as well as some of the biggest songs of the decade. Cyrus was joined by award-winning artists, special guests, and LGBTQ+ allies. To say the night was one huge party would be an understatement. Here are three of the most iconic moments from the Pride special.

There were many amazing country artists who took to the Nashville stage with Cyrus, but two of the most memorable performances were Marren Morris and Mickey Guyton. Morris and Cyrus sang ABBA’s “Dancing Queen” and Guyton joined Cyrus for Blondie’s “Heart of Glass”.

The night was full of colorful performances like “Stand By You”, “Believe”, “Music,” “Express Yourself,” and “Like a Prayer”, but it was what Cyrus did between songs that caught our attention. She brought attention to the trials the LGBTQ community continues to face, comparing their struggles to what we’ve had to face during the pandemic. “Isolation, being distanced or removed from our families, or feeling a loss of freedom in lockdown,” Cyrus said, “hate and injustice and inequality is a global pandemic all on its own. This community and the rights of individuals apart of it are at risk.”
Brothers Osborne’s “We Belong”
Brothers Osborne, featuring brothers John and TJ Osborne, performed Pat Benatar’s “We Belong” with Cyrus and it was super meaningful because TJ is the first openly gay man with a major label country recording contract. He came out earlier this year.

Swift previously won the MTV VMA award for best direction with “The Man”, but what makes “Cardigan” equally impressive is that she also did her own styling, makeup, hair, and everything else in between, in addition to directing the music video.
Teyana Taylor – “Lose Each Other”
Most people will remember Taylor’s song “Lose Each Other” for the unexpected Elton John cameo, but we’re more impressed by the fact she was in charge of directing the whole thing on her own.

Just in the past month alone, Miley has performed and uploaded covers of Blondie’s “Heart of Glass”, Pearl Jam’s, “Just Breathe”, the Cranberries’ “Zombie”, the Cure’s “Boys Don’t Cry”, Britney Spears’ “Gimme More”, Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here”, and Billie Eilish’s “My Future”, giving any song on the list that wasn’t already a rock n roll song a distinct rock vibe.
That’s not to mention that one of Miley’s older covers is currently finding new life, going viral on Tik Tok. We’re talking about the Arctic Monkeys’ “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High”, which she originally sang in 2014.
But wait—that’s not all. On October 21st, Miley also announced that she’ll be recording and releasing an entire Metallica cover album, so anybody who’s been loving this side of Miley is sure to be happy. Rock on, Miley.

]]>Who can forget Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” music video? When it came out it 2013, everyone couldn’t stop talking about it and it inspired many memes and fan recreations. Well, seven years later, and we’re talking about the infamous wrecking ball that Miley Cyrus hangs from again.
At the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards, Miley used her performance of “Midnight Sky” to reference one of the most iconic moments in her career to date. Towards the end of her performance, the singer climbed onto a massive disco ball, which looked like a bedazzled version of the wrecking ball from her 2013 music video.
On the same day of the performance, Kourtney Kardashian posed with her best friend Addison Rae, swinging from the disco ball, which is part of Miley’s Midnight Sky Truck. The truck is being driven around LA to promote her new single “Midnight Sky”.
Miley even commented saying, “Queeeeeeeen! Yasssss

The song premiered last week along with the video directed by Hannah Lux Davis, who also worked on Grande’s videos for “Thank You, Next” and “7 Rings.”
In the video, we see Grande being the mind behind the fight against evil, Cyrus being the physically strongest one, while Del Rey is a weapons expert. Elizabeth Banks, the author of this reboot, appears at the end of the video.
The song is more than just another hit. It carries a strong message for all the girls and women out there and the artists included in this project were carefully selected.
The Charlie’s Angels reboot comes to theaters on November 15th, 2019, starring Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska.
