Pantone color specialist Leatrice Eisman discussed their latest selection CNN and explained why “peach fuzz” felt like the perfect choice for 2024.
“We’re going through a lot of turmoil in our lives, and we have a need for a color that’s nurturing. It’s a warm and cozy shade. And it’s very tactile. We feel that at a time like this, tactility is really important — to touch other people and gather them into our homes,” she explained.
In Pantone’s official press release, Eisman described “peach fuzz” as a shade that resonates with compassion, offers a tactile embrace, and effortlessly bridges the youthful with the timeless. They even partnered up with several brands to launch products in this calming shade, including Motorola, Ruggable, Spoonflower, and Polaroid.
Pantone’s “color of the year” program will celebrate its 25th anniversary next year, and the list of notable past choices includes cerulean, sand dollar, honeysuckle, rose quartz, and last year’s viva magenta.

If you want to incorporate these colors into your wardrobe next year, here are a few ideas as to how you can do so.
With grey being such a wearable neutral and yellow such an eye-catching color, Pantone’s 2021 colors lend themselves perfectly to wearing a neutral, grey-based outfit with a pop of color yellow accessory like a handbag or belt.
If you want to go for a look that more closely brings together both grey and yellow in equal measure, opting for a grey-and-yellow striped piece, like this long-sleeved top, is a great way to tie a classic pattern in with this color palette that is very much of the now.
Are you ready to bring a little bit of warmth and sunshine into this difficult, dreary winter? Popping a bright yellow winter coat over your outfit is a perfect way to make a statement with Pantone’s 2021 colors in a bold, unapologetic way.

There’s no doubt that colors have mood-altering effects and now more than ever with the pandemic, we could use some brightness and color in our lives.
This year, the Spring-Summer 2021 New York Fashion Week color palette’s shades include bright and soothing shades. There are ten standouts shades which include Marigold, Cerulean, Rust, Illuminating, French Blue, Green Ash, Burnt Coral, Mint, Amethyst Orchid, and Raspberry Sorbet as well as five classic shades which include Inkwell, Ultimate Gray, Buttercream, Desert Mist, and Willow.
“Here, we’ve got light, mid tone, bright and dark. What it’s playing to is this whole idea of more choices for people. The idea is that they have had so little choice in so many other areas of their lives in the last several months, let’s try to have some fun again. That’s what we’re looking for and fashion gives us that opportunity,” Pantone Color Institute’s executive director Leatrice Eiseman said about the colors.
Over the rest of New York Fashion Week this year, we expect variations in these colors to pop up in the designer’s collections and for home decor to be influenced by these new color trends.

You probably recognize the shade if you follow interior decoration trends or fashion trends, and it’s going to be even more popular in the year ahead of us. “Instilling calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era,” we read on Pantone’s website. They wrote that the color represents a desire we have for a stable foundation in life as we enter a new decade.
Pantone has been choosing Color of the Year every December since 1999, making this the 20th selection. The first color they chose in 1999 was Cerulean, a shade of blue that seemed like a perfect fit for transitioning from old to the new millennium. Pantone’s selection of colors always influences many different industries and after they pick a Color of the Year, it quickly starts appearing everywhere.
