According to Urban Dictionary, French girls are simply the most beautiful and greatest girls on this planet. Indeed, the idea of French girls as a sort of ideal has been floating around for some decades now. Women like Carine Roitfeld, Jane Birkin, and Catherine Deneuve are revered for their effortless beauty and minimalist chic. At the heart of this somewhat unachievable ideal lies the notion that style is eternal and attitude is everything.

But you don’t actually have to be French in order to achieve a level of Parisian sophistication. Enter clothing brand Rouje. Launched in 2016 by Parisian it-girl Jeanne Damas, the brand caters to that je ne sais quoi quality fashionistas crave. Indeed, the brand’s unofficial mission statement reads: “What’s la vie en Rouje about? Putting lipstick with your fingers, adjusting your skirt to give your legs some sunshine while ‘en terrasse’ at a café. Wearing a dress on a bicycle and jeans for a night out. Surrounding yourself with beautiful souls and witty friends. And missing the métro stop because that book is just too good.”

Recent collections feature romantic retro cotton tops and flowery dresses ideal for picnic weather. Made with beautiful fabrics and with an emphasis on tailoring, the brand hopes to create timeless pieces that outgrow passing fads.

As its creative director, Damas’ French-girl attitude is noticeable throughout the collection and look-books. Damas also collaborates with friends and other creatives, making the brand stand out for its celebratory and sincere tone. In other words: it’s hard not to smile when scrolling through Rouje’s collections.

According to Damas, her biggest sources of inspiration, when it comes to her effortless style, are other women. “Women in the streets, my mother, my friends, movies,” she noted in an interview with Coveteur. If you’re looking to add that extra layer of chic to your wardrobe, you should definitely check her brand:

The most visited museum in the world, Musée du Louvre in Paris, just put its entire collection online so you can browse it for free. Depending on where you live, visiting Paris may not be an option right now. But while the Louvre is currently closed for visitors, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy the amazing collection of the city’s biggest museum. The new platform allows everyone to enjoy the artwork without the typical crowds.

This is the first time in history that the entire collection is available in such a way. It includes displayed artwork as well as works that are in storage or loaned to other institutions. A total of nearly 500,000 works can be enjoyed for free.

It’s possible to explore the contents by collections, by themed albums, or by rooms in the museum. The database gets regular updates and will continue to grow in the future.

“The Collections database consists of entries for more than 480,000 works in the Musée du Louvre and Musée National Eugène-Delacroix. Updated on a daily basis, it is the result of the continuous research and documentation efforts carried out by teams of experts from both museums,” reads the museum’s website.

Paris is one of the biggest cities in the world and for a long time, has been a pioneer in urban planning and favoring public transportation over private cars. Efforts to popularise walking around the city and using public transport and bicycles has shown great results, but the city wishes to take things to the new level. Paris’ mayor, Anne Hidalgo, has presented the “15-minute Paris” plan, which goal is to change Parisians’ day-to-day and add leisure into their lives by shortening their daily commute to work and school.

Hidalgo’s latest project, La Ville Du Quart d’Heure (the quarter-hour city), aims to decarbonize the city and make it healthier. If everything goes as planned, the residents won’t take longer than 15 minutes to get from home to work or to drop children to school, etc.

By embracing the plan, the city commits to making the necessary physical changes needed by taking back public space (car lanes) and replacing them with dedicated pedestrian and cycling paths.

Numerous cities around the world face a similar problem—morning and afternoon crowds as people rush to get to work/school and back home. This leads to another problem as many people get discouraged to continue living in the city due to pollution, noise, and crowd. Not to mention that the lack of daily activity and spending time in cars and offices leads to health risks and obesity.

Mayor Hidalgo’s proposition takes all this into consideration and plans for a city where people could walk more and use the efficient public transport to reduce crowds, especially around rush hour.
