San Francisco 49ers’ starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has been often criticized in recent years for his inconsistency in crucial games and inability to stay healthy. However, it appears that despite this, his future with the franchise is secure.

San Francisco’s head coach Kyle Shanahan recently talked with reporters about Garoppolo’s status and said that he sees the 29-year-old player under center for 49ers next season.

“I expect Jimmy to be our starter next year,” said Shanahan.

Garoppolo is currently out with a high ankle injury, and there has been doubt whether he will get to play in 2020 again. Still, Shanahan remains optimistic.

“I mean, I expect him to come and play with us this year,” he added. “We have six games left. We are not out of the playoffs yet.”

Jimmy Garoppolo helped the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance last season, but the majority of the media contributed this run to the team’s superior defense and effective running game. This argument was made stronger by Garoppolo’s struggles in the Super Bowl loss to Kansas City Chiefs when he threw two interceptions and missed open receivers.

2020 hasn’t been much better for Garoppolo either, as he managed to throw for only 1,096 yards and seven touchdowns while also having five interceptions.

San Francisco is obviously ready to give Garoppolo another chance, but the sentiment is that he’s running out of them. The 2021 season will most likely be his last opportunity to show doubters wrong and keep his job. If he fails to do so, don’t be surprised when the 49ers get themselves a different signal-caller.

It recently seemed like there is a chance for Pettis to still play a role with the 49ers, as he returned to the lineup against Seattle Seahawks after three weeks of absence. However, the 25-year-old player ended the contest with a lost fumble during a punt return that most likely sealed his fate.

Dante Pettis, who leaves San Francisco with 38 career receptions for 576 yards and seven touchdowns, is expected to be an interesting option for WR-needy teams (did anyone said Packers?). Despite his shortcomings with the 49ers, he is still considered to have a high ceiling and can be a low risk-high reward for a rebuilding franchise or a Super Bowl contender.

Injuries continue to deplete the San Francisco 49ers of their key players. The latest in line to go down with is the team’s starting back Raheem Mostert, who suffered an ankle injury in a Week 6 win against Los Angeles Rams.

Mostert got hurt in the first half but tried to play through pain and returned to the field in the second. However, he got out after just one carry and didn’t return to the game.

Asked about Mostert on Monday, 49ers’ head coach Kyle Shanahan told reports that the veteran back is dealing with a high ankle sprain. Shanahan added that the 28-year-old player won’t play in Week 7 and is “most likely” headed to injured reserve.

Raheem Mostert has been a key factor for San Francisco when he was on the field this season, rushing for 303 yards and one rushing touchdown in just four games. He was also has been effective in the passing game, catching 11 passes for 150 receiving yards and a score.

If Mostert lands on IR, he won’t be able to return until the Week 10 game against New Orleans Saints.

In his absence, the 49ers will most likely turn to veteran Jerick McKinnon, 2020’s undrafted free agent signing JaMycal Hasty, and third-year player Jeff Wilson Jr.
