We’ve entered that time of the year when “year-in-review” lists are popping up everywhere, and Apple Music embraced this trend. The popular music streaming service unveiled its list of the top songs of 2023, but can you guess who made it to the No. 1 spot?

Smash hits that we’ve been listening to all year long, such as “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus and “Kill Bill” by SZA, did pretty great on Apple Music’s list, but none of them took the No. 1 spot. They had to take the back seat to Morgan Wallen’s chart-topping single “Last Night”.

This is quite a shocker considering that “Last Night” wasn’t a huge hit outside of the country circles, but its success could’ve been expected. Wallen’s loyal fanbase helped him top the Billboard Hot 100 chart with this song and spend 16 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1, despite making little to no impact outside of North America and Oceania.

According to Apple’s official statement, this year’s list feels more global than ever because it includes several fast-rising regional acts holding their own. They singled out Mexican superstar Peso Pluma, K-pop girl group NewJeans, Japanese duo Yoasobi, and breakout Nigerian star Rema as proof of the list’s global appeal.

If you pay closer attention to the music charts this winter, you’ll notice that the songs on top have a few things in common. These girl power anthems are all about taking revenge and here are three smash hits released by our favorite female artists who decided to take their power back.

Miley Cyrus – “Flowers”

Miley Cyrus gave us the first true pop bop of 2023 with “Flowers”, which became her second No. 1 single atop the Billboard Hot 100 following its release. This self-empowering song is all about finding strength within yourself after a tough breakup and loving yourself better than anyone else could.

Shakira – “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53”

While Cyrus opted to subtly call out her ex in “Flowers”, Shakira chose a different approach and went all-in. She broke the internet and several viewership records with this revenge anthem, which very directly addressed the fallout of her relationship with Gerard Piqué.

SZA – “Kill Bill”

Revenge is one of the main motifs on SZA’s new album SOS and no song encapsulates it better than “Kill Bill”. Inspired by the iconic movie of the same name, SZA sings about killing his ex and his new girlfriend in this hit song, but “Kill Bill” is mostly rooted in fantasy, unlike the previous two songs.

While we’re used to seeing pearls on clothes, jewelry, and bags, pearls have become the latest beauty accessory. Celebrities can’t seem to get enough pearls and we’re loving the modern take on the classic gem. Here are some of the best pearl looks from your favorite stars.

Grimes

Grimes looked super futuristic at the 2021 Met Gala, wearing pearls accentuating her eyebrows and lining her ear for a fashion-forward look.

Barbie Ferreira

The Euphoria star attended her first Met Gala in 2021 wearing a pearl dress and the pearls didn’t stop there—she wore a custom Mudd Pearl hairpiece that wrapped around to the back of her updo with strings of pearls hanging across her back.

SZA

We’ve never seen a manicure quite like SZA’s pearl one and her nail artist revealed it took over five hours and lots of prayers to achieve this look.

Machine Gun Kelly

Machine Gun Kelly and his girlfriend Megan Fox wore coordinated outfits to the 2021 MTV VMAs, breaking the internet, and he matched he accessorized his red Dolce and Gabbana suit by bedazzling his face with pearls. It was his first-ever makeup look and he nailed it!

Doja Cat is back in the spotlight with Plant Her and every song from this album is an absolute banger. The same can be said about several A-list collaborations featured on this record, and here are some of the very best.

“Kiss Me More” (featuring SZA)

Even before it officially hit the shelves, Planet Her already produced one hit single—”Kiss Me More” featuring SZA. This catchy bop is one of the defining songs of summer 2021, and it peaked at no. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“You Right” (featuring The Weeknd)

It was just a matter of time before Doja Cat and The Weeknd joined forces again after collaborating on the remix of his hit single “In Your Eyes”. The success of “You Right” proved to the world they are truly a match made in heaven.

“I Don’t Do Drugs” (featuring Ariana Grande)

Ariana Grande is another artist that perfectly matches Doja Cat’s energy and “I Don’t Do Drugs” is their third collaboration following “Motive” and “34+35 (Remix)” with Megan Thee Stallion.

“Payday” (featuring Young Thug)

In addition to featuring several familiar faces, Planet Her saw Doja Cat collaborating with several artists she never worked with before, including Young Thug.

If we had to pick a single hair color that’s ruling the world right now, copper would definitely make the cut—and these five celebrities are putting it on the map.

Gigi Hadid

If you’re looking for a single celebrity to inspire your copper look, Gigi Hadid is the person for the job. Her copper hair-do has an amazing, natural vibe, and she’s often mixing it up with other rising hair trends, such as face-framing, tiny braids.

Rosalía

When it comes to hair, Rosalía usually likes to stick to darker shades. That’s why it was so refreshing to see her start rocking a gentle copper hue, and this color proved to be the right match for her.

Jessica Chastain

Chastain is one of those stars who are basically known for rocking copper hair all the time, and it’s difficult to imagine her with any other hair color.

SZA

SZA is no stranger to experimenting with her hair, and she looks different every time we see her. Copper hue looks impeccable on her and we wouldn’t mind if she was wearing it more often.

Lizzo

Lizzo is another celebrity prone to frequent hair transformation, so it’s not a surprise that the copper trend got her seal of approval.

The “women supporting women” trend is taking the music industry by storm, and Doja Cat is one of the artists at its frontlines. She’s given us several epic collaborations since the beginning of 2021, and each one featured some of our favorite female artists.

“Kiss Me More” ft. SZA

Doja Cat’s latest A-list collaboration with SZA will also serve as the lead single for her upcoming third studio album. The sensual music video for this song is a pink-colored daydream with a sci-fi theme and it perfectly captures the vibe of this disco-inspired track.

“34+35 (Remix)” ft. Ariana Grande and Megan Thee Stallion

One of the highest-ranking hits of Doja Cat’s career so far comes in the form of a rap-infused remix of Ariana Grande’s “34+35”. Also featuring Megan Thee Stallion, this song is a tour de force that shows three of the world’s leading female artists at the top of their game.

“Best Friend” ft. Saweetie

Another Doja Cat collaboration that’s currently climbing the charts, “Best Friend” is just the kind of catchy, carefree bop we need in our life right now. Saweetie and Doja are truly a match made in heaven, and we’re hoping this won’t be the last time they joined forces.
